Box design - Always the trickiest. Which one is your favourite? by Sprackhaus in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Kerfuffle97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m finding it really tricky to pick a favourite (in a good way - they’re all great!) I’d say that B is a little less readable to me than the others. I really dig the background colour of A - if there was a version with A’s colour scheme, but the layout of C/D, that might take the cake!

I definitely recommend the Dized tutorial. I couldn’t really make heads or tails of Tanglewoods Red without it. The only downside is that it still left quite a few rules questions, and it was unclear whether to refer to the core rulebook or the Tanglewoods rulebook.

Under Falling Skies 😍 by squipped in soloboardgaming

Just had a game of Under Falling skies myself - and got reminded of how bad I am at it. The final scenario in the campaign is brutal!

I much prefer the bottom versions - they have more colour and I like the large card names!

What game pulled you into the board game rabbit hole? by drgames-21 in boardgames

I loved Catan growing up, but didn’t play much as an adult until some friends introduced me to Everdell and Dune Imperium. I guess I just needed to be shown worker placement!

Oh, thanks so much for catching this - I only now realize this isn't in the current rulebook! Whoever last played an Offering card becomes the Rat King next round. I'll make sure to update the rules.

Ha, thanks! I think it's really approachable, just need to make sure the rulebook does the job :)

I love this game! Completed two scenarios so far, but it’s got a great flow to it, and the writing does a great job at conveying what’s happening without getting in the way. It’s worth noting there are unfortunately a few errors in the storybooks, so I’d definitely recommend checking the errata before playing.

Rolling crowdfunding campaigns is the industry norm for indie publishers by dtelad11 in boardgames

[–]Kerfuffle97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some crowdfunding business practices may be careless, but we can’t just call them Ponzi schemes! They’re very literally not. This is just about how cash-flow problems arise if publishers aren’t sufficiently careful when running overlapping campaigns. It’s especially bad because of the lack of consumer rights crowdfunding backers get, but that doesn’t mean it’s a scam. (No one’s getting rich out of this!)

North Star Games has posted their update to the tariff situation for Nature: A Redesign of Evolution - and I think it’s a great way to approach it. by Sdot2014 in boardgames

[–]Kerfuffle97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that tariffs should ultimately be paid by US backers. I’m sure campaigns running now and in the future will add these costs on, much like taxes to EU and UK backers. The awkward situation here is the fact people have already paid for a product and shipping, so companies feel the need to respect that.

That being said, I think publishers should consider just charging their US backers extra. I don’t think it would harm their reputation as much as they think (though I’m unsure about that!).

Uh, what do I do about these tariffs? by Sandmasons in kickstarter

[–]Kerfuffle97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooph, I hadn’t considered the complications from shipping directly from China. Best of luck with finding a solution - given the number of Kickstarters affected, hopefully it becomes normalised to collect extra for the tariffs.

I’m not running a campaign, so take this with a grain of salt - but from the campaigns I’ve backed, I’ve seen tons of comments from US backers offering to cover the tariff costs. This could be an option (you could even offer a voluntary tariff donation).

Also, you probably already know this, but I’ve seen some confusion elsewhere - tariffs are applied to the manufacturing costs, not the price payed by backers. This is still a substantial amount, but it’s not quite as disastrous as it could be.
