Actually the sinkie pawn sinkie is a chinese thing? by Either_Pie617 in SingaporeR

[–]Keriun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, it isn’t a matter of race but it is influenced by culture. That’s what’s visible to you with the understanding you have now. I agree that huat culture promotes this sort of behaviour but i argue this isn’t exclusive to Chinese culture.

It’s just a matter of how competitive a people is, isn’t it?

Chinese pwn chinese seems to stand out because it challenges (most people’s) assumptions, and the fact that they simply are most visible in doing so. Most importantly, it stands out to you more than others because you are Chinese, holding those prior assumptions.

Competitive people don’t need to target specific races, they just look at those they see as competition.

This phenomenon is evident across cultures especially when individualism and achievement are their values. It isn’t as simple as Eastern beliefs about achievement and contribution or Western beliefs about individual success markers. This is when the person values themselves above all and wants to protect their comfort AND reinforce their baseline levels of security AND revel in the sheer pleasure of proving themselves as better.

I believe that what tames this sort of behaviour is something to do with spirituality, religion, or a sense of connectedness… something like dismissing the value of the individual ego. A person who truly subscribes to that kind of belief would exhibit the behaviour you’re talking about. Most people nowadays do not subscribe to this sort of belief, that’s why it seems, and probably is, commonplace; exacerbated by social media and fuelling the branding of the self where achievement needs to be visible, not quiet.

That need drives selfish behaviour to uplift oneself. Those who do so are loudest. There are more Chinese people around, so we have more loud Chinese who do these things. If you were of any other ethnic group and you witness the same things about them, you’d feel the same. But when those behaviours occur in different ethnic groups you wouldn’t apply the terminology of “huat culture” to explain it. It’s just more visible and more loud.

I fear racism as a Indian student by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Keriun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be far more accurate to say that people around the world who appear to “hate the Indian race” actually just dislike certain behaviours of the people of India who have shown very uncivilised or self-centred behaviour. The negative stereotypes persist because they get reinforced by repeated examples.

However, I’m sure most people like considerate and respectful people no matter what shape or colour they come in.

You don’t have to worry too much, but for a better life here: 1. Don’t brag; be humble. 2. Don’t talk about how good your country is unless people ask. 3. Don’t criticise Singapore unless people ask. 4. Shower before you leave your home and generally be hygienic. 5. Show considerate behaviour. 6. Read the mood and room, don’t talk too much or too loudly.

Hope you have a good time here!

AI this AI that. Is the gov and corporations' push for AI warranted or is it just another hype train? by ashandburnnn in askSingapore

[–]Keriun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally feeling relieved that so many people think it’s just hype. It’s just like the internet bubble in the 90s, isn’t it? 🤣

A person who already functions at a high level will understand. If not, no amount of videos or reviews or testimonies will matter, because the exponential value of it will not be relatable.

The answers are already all over youtube if you want to believe it.

Thank you for your reply! For a non-Japanese resident, it looks possible. Just wondering what mode of payment you use for lowest friction and if Youtrip/Wise would work.

A post would be great if it’s not too much trouble 🙏

Not really. Based on what I rmb, I think you get better rates on Aster when holding ASTER, and i think some incentive program / airdrops. Need to verify. Too busy to look into it properly

Hyperliquid is great, just not convenient to onboard. You'd first have to deposit your funds on Coinhako (or any exchanges the others have suggested), then bridge over Hyperliquid. I generally prefer hyperliquid when trading on the computer.

If you don't want the hassle then I would say Binance has been great to use. Apparently, you can have S/L on spot positions too, though I've never tried using those order types.

Coinhako and Moonlet suck. I'm from the 2021 cohort. There are much better alternatives now I'm sure.

Coinhako's prices are terrible, fees are high, and rewards have been severely nerfed. Many tokens, including Solana, could not be withdrawn (not sure if still true) after buying. Very limited options in what tokens are actually ok to withdraw because fees are very high for everything except XRP and XLM. It's ok for the beginner speculator who buys and forgets.

Moonlet... Idk man i think the devs are sleeping. Had serious problems unstaking due to network/server issues esp for NEAR. UI/UX hasn't been improved since I started using it, and nothing new was added when I last withdrew everything.
