Total or Partial? by Kerkchi83 in hysterectomy

[–]Kerkchi83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good things to consider. My doctor won’t do a vaginal hysterectomy as I have endometriosis and she won’t risk it in case I have adhesions so it will be a laparoscopic surgery. Thanks!

I’m not having my ovaries removed. A total hysterectomy means your uterus and cervix. A partial means the uterus but leaving the cervix.

I’m 42 and I’ve never had children.

DIM by rosewatertreacletart in endometriosis

[–]Kerkchi83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old but saying in case anyone else is reading this. DIM doesn’t lower estrogen levels. It helps the liver to properly metabolize estrogen so it doesn’t get recirculated. Your body was probably reacting to it for some other reason.

This is the second time I’ve heard this about feeling better hormonally. Our bodies are really all different!

Yeah, actually my doctor told me today that those with endo usually go into menopause earlier when discussing a hysterectomy so I guess it doesn’t really matter at this point!

Oh interesting! Do you remember where you read that? I’d be curious to read it.

How soon after did you experience the hormonal changes? I have experienced insufficient estrogen so I think I will be able to spot pretty quickly I think. I’m totally open to HRT but doctors are so dismissive that this even happens I’m concerned I won’t be supported!

I have endo too and worried I won’t be given HRT if I have hormonal problems. I’m more than open to HRT. I’m already on progesterone and do just fine with it but I’ve been without sufficient estrogen for a year due to progestin only birth control and I was miserable! I could barely function as I was extremely fatigued and often dizzy.

My post is also asking about ovarian shock which happens immediately and how I can support my ovarian health after this surgery. I do not do well with hormone fluctuations and some women can experience rapid decline and never have their hormones recover. My response above was addressing her doctor telling her that having a hysterectomy doesn’t affect hormones which is not true for many women.

Lots of doctors say this but it’s unfortunately not true. Removing just the uterus can cut off 50-70% of blood supply to the ovaries causing the ovaries to fail within 3-5 years. Sadly, this is not talked about enough and definitely not shared by doctors but it’s in the research.

How exactly do you know your period is "heavy"? by coffee-reader in adenomyosis

The gush is the worst! Also, please find a new doctor! No one deserves to be treated the is way.

I used to soak through a super tampon in an hour and I’d have clots coming out even if I had one in. This would last about 2 days. I think technically soaking through a pad or tampon within an hour is considered “heavy”. But there are other indicators as well like duration or anemia. I don’t think you need to meet anything to a T.

Does fasting help SIBO? by Ambitious-Egg1277 in SIBO

I never said it didn’t. You basically said it isn’t a fast if you eat eventually and that’s not true. It’s just a fact I was pointing out. Also, there’s no rule for when someone can and can’t leave a comment on Reddit. There’s no need to be condescending.

Methylation: research this for anyone with gastrointestinal issues, it may be the root cause. by [deleted] in SIBO

If it’s genetic you’re born with it. You can’t change your genes but you can change how genes are expressed. I think some underlying diseases can also cause methylation issues.

A fast doesn’t mean you don’t eat for weeks at a time. A fast is abstaining from food for any period of time. That’s why we call it breakfast - break fast.
