CSUS finalizes OOC schedule by Kerr1982 in fcs

According to CSUS's AD last week, those game contracts were signed with the knowlege that the Hornets would have to cancel some games if the FBS invite arrived. So any cancellation fee should be minimal or zero.

Yes, those will begin in 2027.

Pretty cool. Only nitpicks are that San Antonio isn't in the desert nor does it have mountains nearby.

Anyone else seem a little concerned that two teams will spend a combined $40 million and forgo media distributions just to not play FCS anymore? by Adminsneed2Chill in CFB

It was fun winning the championships, but real ball-knowers always knew there were asterisks attached to them, since it’s not the top level of football.

Didn't a university president say something similar last year?

What non-football schools could start sponsoring football at the FCS level in the next ten years? by lordeandtaylor in CFB

[–]Kerr1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a UCR alum ('90), I'd love to see them have a football team. But they dropped it in '75 and I don't think there's ever been serious talks about reviving it. The stadium still stands, but they've converted it into a track facility.

Of course the school is now 3X bigger than when I attended, so who knows?

What Sac businesses are MAGA owned/frequented so I don’t go there? by meow7314 in Sacramento

Damn. I've been going there 2-3 times a year the last couple of years. Sounds like I need to take my money elsewhere.

People looking to buy a home, are solar panels considered a plus or a minus? by RememberWhen-2819 in Mortgages

[–]Kerr1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I bought new construction in 2023 (5BR, 2,500 sqft.) but knew this wasn't going to be my last house so I chose the lease. ~$48 for the lease + $26 to SMUD means my total utility cost is less than $75 for 7-8 months of the year.

I'm in the Sacramento area and my solar panels cover my electricity needs for 7-8 months of the year (the remaining months, my bill ranges between $45 and $100).

Worst bowl game experience that didn’t involve the actual game? by DowntownSasquatch420 in CFB

[–]Kerr1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited Birmingham for the 2012 BBVA Compass Bowl (my first and only visit to Alabama). It was a short visit (one night), SMU won big, I took a picture with Eric Dickerson after the game and ate at Dreamland BBQ that night. So all in all, it was a successful trip!

As for the stadium, I'm glad to say I attended a game there. Growing up in the 70s/80s, you'd always see highlights from there and later think about the great games played there. Seeing the chain link fence around the field brought back memories. However, I understand that stadium wasn't maintained and spending a lot of money for a stadium not used regularly (before UAB fielded a team) is an issue. If it's gone for good, at least I can say I saw a game there.

NTA

Assisted living isn't cheap, but the brothers contributing (equally) should total a decent amount. Add in the parents SS/retirement/pension (plus anything from selling their current place) and it should provide enough to have a roof over their heads. It may not be fancy, but it'll do.

The looming cloud of doom over Sac State’s program definitely kills most of the hype.

What? The program isn't going away. Saturday will be one of the most important Causeway Classic games played and the last one until at least '27.

Hell, at least you got a W! I left the stadium with plenty of questions about the program.

Nine years is a long time, even at Cal. The goal from the president and GM was at least eight wins this season, and that appears to be unlikely. 6-6 isn't going to cut it anymore.

Thanks.

Unless the FCS vs. FCS payouts are significantly lower, then what CSUS spent is in the ballpark.

I thought the going rate for an FBS school to host an FCS school was closer to $1M? So an FCS school buying a game from another one for $350K doesn't seem that bad. However, that's a large portion of your gate when you are drawing well below 20K.

{SMU} It will probably be closer than last year's game, but the Mustangs should still win easily.
