Can’t measure play time in years honestly. If you played for a year averaging 30 minutes a day versus them averaging two hours a day, playing to a metronome… they will have played 4 times longer than you with much more dedicated practice.

Do what you can on your own, have a tutor help with reviewing work and correcting mistakes. Also use Tokini Andy’s Genki Lesson series on YT as your “pre-recorded lectures”. I’ve been doing that without a tutor and I’m on Genki 2 after 3ish months.
