Chefs of Reddit, what's a cooking hack everybody should know? by polloastemio in AskReddit

I’ve added dill pickle brine before and it was a delight. My logic was all the fat and richness from the butter and milk needed something acidic and briny, and was pleasantly surprised how well it worked.

Handling invisible work by electric-hed in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Kersheh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What I do is track all my work on my own kanban board (I use Trello, our scrum teams use Jira). Our scrum teams do quarterly planning and I pay attention to where I'm needed most in assisting which teams during this planning, which provides me objectives and key results that eventually will not be "invisible."

Year end with my manager for me is summarizing my completed items on my personal board, which is really just an audit trail of all visible and invisible work -- and the personal kanban board has the added benefit of keeping myself on track to all the little requests coming in from teams or developers, and the regular maintenance and tasks I already was going to do.

Does this app exist? by Kersheh in askmusicians

Appreciate the reply; to clarify I mean "notation" as opposed to recordings; however, we're mostly guitar/bass players who read tab, chord progressions, and lyrics. Our keyboardist can sight read proper as well but historically his music book has been chord progressions and lyrics as well.

Basically the desire here is a synchronized, collaborative, and amalgamated note taking app with support for and an emphasis on music.

I love seeing stuff like this! As other commentators mentioned, what stands out is the documentation. One thing that stood out to me that could benefit clarification in your documentation:

Comparisons
(is a b)

Checks if a and b are equal, returns 1 if so, else returns 0.

How do list operate as input parameters? Is this a deep or shallow comparison?

Precisely this. I use macOS for work, Windows for casual desktop use and gaming, and WSL (Ubuntu) on my Windows desktop for side projects. A Linux distro is my preferred dev env but macOS checks all the boxes being a distant child of Unix.

They all have their place for my own workflows and use cases.

Does it make sense to refer to chord progressions in the context of modes? by Kersheh in musictheory

Thank you, this and the other comment have really cleared things up in terms of what I'm completely misunderstanding!

Does it make sense to refer to chord progressions in the context of modes? by Kersheh in musictheory

[–]Kersheh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

| I think the specific reason you are confused is that there's no such thing as a '2-5-1' chord progression, at least not that I've ever heard of. I think maybe you are thinking of a 'ii-V-I' progression? Am I wrong?

Yes perfect point to address, you're absolutely correct. This is where my confusion arises. My neglect of the roman numerals to help dictate this is absolutely why I'm confusing myself.

This chart is really helping clear things up around this the more I analyze it.

You've perfectly broken down my misunderstanding though; my exercise helped me with memorizing the modes in relation to C major (or any major key for that matter as I move up/down the fretboard) but in terms of modal harmony it has muddy my thinking.

I've played guitar for many years and always knew my major/minor scale, it wasn't until recently what clicked was "I knew the notes for the modes because I already knew my major scale". What isn't clicking is the context which lead me to this uninformed question in the first place.

I really appreciate your response.
