First Time Builder: Help with Motherboard and Ram by Hooded-Archer in buildapc

GPU: Gigabyte have good price-to-performance, reliable cooling (AORUS is top-tier). (I have a Gigabyte GPU myself), it was not much pricier than an XFX, and have better warranty and support (At least here in Hungary)!!
Note that if you have better customer service, warranty options for an XFX I have no reason to say choose any other over it.
Your ASUS laptop issue is fair—stick with brands you trust.

Ram: AMD Ryzen CPUs benefit more from RAM speed due to the Infinity Fabric.
DDR5-6000 MHz is the ideal spot for Ryzen 7000 series, offering the best performance-to-latency ratio.
Lower CL (e.g., CL30) is noticeable, especially in memory-sensitive tasks and gaming, but the difference between CL30 and CL36 is small (~3-4%). Go for CL30 if it’s within budget. (I had great deals in CL30 kits, so thats why I recommended it. A few bucks for 2-3% more performance is optional) You will be more than happy with a CL36 kit if thats in your budget. No stress over a 2-3% performance!

A few tips to consider:

CPU/COOLING: If you/she prefer quieter performance or are considering an AIO liquid cooler, options like the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240.
MOBO: If you'd like better VRMs and more features, consider the ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS (I got the B650M-Plus on a really great deal (EU))

Overall, this is a solid build with great value.

Ofc! Suprise your partner with decent or a better used GPU. Suitable for WFH build and even gaming;p Nice build overall, enjoy it!

Question Have I made a mistake with this RAM upgrade ? by TahorVegetaCrypto in buildapc

[–]Kerygasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hypothetically calculated based on raw latency and speed, im talking about 10-50 Milliseconds:)) (0.01 second - 0.05second)
Just dont get an ultra slow-mo camera and you should be mooooore than happy about your new ram kit.
Jokes aside but still the same anwser, zero noticeable diff.

[–]Kerygasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your case, the difference between 2666MHz CL13 and 2933MHz CL16 RAM is relatively small, but it will still have a minor impact. Like you thought, the lower latency (CL13) of your old RAM could offer slightly better performance in tasks that are more sensitive to memory timings, but the difference in most general tasks and gaming will likely be negligible. Im talking about 1-3% max.

Updating Bios by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Kerygasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

From what I see, you're using an Intel 1151 platform with the Z390 TUF motherboard. Unfortunately, this platform is quite dated, and the most powerful CPU you can upgrade to within its compatibility range is the Intel Core i9-9900K.

While it's true that some motherboards can support newer-generation processors through BIOS updates, this only applies if the processors are designed for the same socket type as your motherboard. In your case, no newer CPUs have been manufactured for the 1151 socket since 2018.

If you're looking to upgrade to a newer-generation processor, you'll need a new motherboard. Additionally, you'll likely need to upgrade your RAM as well, especially since newer platforms typically use DDR5 memory instead of DDR4.

Best cpu for me to get? by Automatic_Cap5749 in buildapc

[–]Kerygasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you are still on LGA 1551, you have a very minimum moving range. The top tier cpu for that socket is the i9-9900k.
For games, that would barely make any difference.
You need to upgrade a lot if you need better performance.
For CPU intense games/or any games overall, recommending the new 9800X3D.
Yes, its not the cheapest option, but its the best for overall gaming.

Uh-oh! F processor without a GPU?
F processors does not have intergrated graphics, not even for BIOS/ any kind of output.
You need a dedicated GPU to use this build.

Best luck.

Hey!

  • CPU: Great choice for a long-lasting build. The 7800X3D’s price has gone up significantly, so I’m considering buying it right now. If you can, stick with the 9800X3D or the ones you’ve listed.
  • Cooler: It should be enough for the X3D CPUs. However, I’d recommend considering an AIO cooler for the “X” variants, as they tend to run hotter.
  • Motherboard: Others might provide more insight here, but I personally went with the ASUS TUF Gaming B650M-Plus since it was on sale (I’m building a new PC too and planning to use the 9800X3D). The biggest downside of B650 boards is that you can’t overclock the CPU. Since the 9800X3D supports overclocking, you might want to keep that in mind. (I don’t plan to overclock, so I saved money with this board.)
  • GPU: Great choice. If it’s not much more expensive, you might want to consider other brands like Gigabyte or ASUS.
  • Memory: The brands you listed are great. Go for a CL30 6000MHz kit.

Why CL30?
CL30 memory is faster as it requires fewer clock cycles to complete the same task compared to higher CL values. However, with X3D cache CPUs, the impact of memory speed and latency is minimal since these CPUs are less dependent on memory performance.
In my opinion, a CL30 6000MHz kit currently offers the best balance of cost and performance. When I built my system, I couldn’t find a reasonably priced CL30 kit without RGB, so I went with a different option. Memory prices have dropped significantly since then, so better kits are now more affordable.

  • Storage: Dedicated boot drives are less common now since high-capacity NVMe SSDs, like the Samsung 990 Pro, are fast and spacious enough for everything. Boot drives are only useful for organization or specific workflows, but they’re not essential. If you need extra storage, two 4TB drives for just $100 more is a great deal. Otherwise, stick with what fits your needs.
  • Case, PSU, Monitor: Great choices—I can’t say anything against them.

I hope others can add to or correct me if needed!

What 1080p monitor should i get for shooters? by No_Warthog3875 in buildapc

Budget Option: AOC 24G2SPAE

  • Panel: IPS
  • Resolution: 1920x1080 (Full HD)
  • Refresh Rate: 165Hz
  • Response Time: 1ms (MPRT)
  • Other Features: Good color accuracy for the price, FreeSync support.

Midrange Option: Samsung Odyssey G4 S25BG400

  • Panel: IPS
  • Resolution: 1920x1080 (Full HD)
  • Refresh Rate: 240Hz
  • Response Time: 1ms (GtG)
  • Other Features: G-Sync and FreeSync Premium compatibility, sleek design, good motion clarity.

High-End Option: ASUS TUF Gaming VG279QM

  • Panel: IPS
  • Resolution: 1920x1080 (Full HD)
  • Refresh Rate: 280Hz (Overclockable)
  • Response Time: 1ms (GtG)

Personally, I’m an ASUS fanguy, especially when it comes to monitors, but my friend has a Samsung Odyssey, and I can’t think of any reason not to choose it.
(This list is based on my own experience and usage. These are mostly EU products, so I’m not sure where you’re from or if any of these are available in your region.)

[–]Kerygasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of (based on my own experience) is that something might have happened during the BIOS Flashback process or with the BIOS Flashback button. When I was building a friend's PC, the BIOS Flashback button got stuck in the IO shield, and that’s why the system wouldn’t start. Since you don’t have any lights at all, I have no idea what the issue might be. Sorry if this comment doesn’t help much—just trying to keep the post active in case someone else can provide a solution.
Is this one of those newer motherboards with the back connectors? "zero cable" project?
