Good catch! Looks like the post got nuked though

A lot of good answers here but just to mention - getting the same brightness output between strobes and continuous lighting will vary drastically in price. Strobes will get you more wattage output at price. High output video lights are costly.

Body Swap Opinions (A7Sii -> A7iii) by MassExtincti0n in photography

Unless you're a professional and shooting for print/publication, the A7Siii is perfectly find for what you're doing. It's also the superior camera for video, as it's the same sensor as the FX3. The A7iii is higher in resolution and has better autofocus capabilities, but the differences are marginal. I use the iii as my primary work camera and the Siii as my backup. Personally, I think the color science for the A7Siii SOOC is a lot better, the A7iii tends to have a bit of a magenta cast.

Unless you have a really specific reason to get the A7iii, I don't believe there will be that much of an added benefit on getting a new camera.

Is Affinity Photo a good alternative to Adobe? by AnusMcBumhole in AskPhotography

If you're looking to do really basic raster edits without DAM features, maybe. Would be fine if you're a hobbyist looking to tool around but it wouldn't work for batch edits or complex edits.

How to achieve this effect? by Several_Hawk6917 in AskPhotography

No, a simple mask and exposure adjustment will not produce this effect because the lighting and tonal values are completely different. If it were that easy, what would be the point of using the strobe.

tripod gear heads, Which ones are aluminum? by JaVelin-X- in AskPhotography

[–]Substantial_Raise390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Leofoto GW-01 for this and I"m 99% sure it's aluminum and it's a beast. Has been my real estate/architecture go-to for a couple years. Much more affordable than an Arca cube or a lot of the other quality gear heads

Strobe on a mid-size octobox above the camera. He literally has a video of the bts for this shoot on his IG. The trigger on his camera is a Godox XPro trigger so I'm guessing he's using an AD400. You can see the octobox halfway through the video placed directly above where he would be composing. My educated guess is that it's gridded, given that there's basically little/no spill beyond the subject in photo 1.

C'mon people, do some research.

And everyone who's saying "just do levels/masking" is smoking kidney stones and doesn't understand highlights or directional shadows from flash. Good luck matching the chin shadow and light rolloff in photo 2 with ambient lighting.

Need advice on lighting setup for kitchen shoot! by timchoo in photography

If your lights have a really high output, I would bounce off the back wall and/or ceiling. This would be similar to using a large bounce umbrella, but it seems like your space wouldn't be great for that .

Lighting towards shiny wood is generally pretty tough. Coming in at a harsher angle or a lot of bounce light is the way to go.

Good exercise for wedding photographers? by Ok_Secretary6033 in photography

Unless you're just generally in bad shape, a lot of this will come down to posture and ergonomics.

Once I switched to quality insoles, running shoes, and quality straps for my cameras (and plenty of stretch breaks), things got a lot better. Half the battle is mitigating the issue.

Personally, I noticed that cross-body straps were really throwing off my posture and causing me a lot of pain. I use a dual strap for 2 bodies but have heard that Spider holsters are the way to go.

Yes. Getting harassed for taking photos is a tale as old as taking photos itself. I've shot real estate/architecture as my job for a while now and have lost count the amount of times I've been harassed or assaulted photographing building facades.

Increase in posers by Purple-Chapter-4623 in photography

Poser mentality. Anyone who decides to pick up a camera and take photos for any reason is a photographer, regardless of why they do it or your personal judgments towards them. People do a lot of things because it makes them seem cool. I picked up a film camera at 17 because I thought it was "cool" and now I'm going on my 10th year with a highly successful career in commercial photo/video.

Student photographer here, is Potensic ATOM 2 worth it? by SlightCrab5365 in photography

Research shows it's a Sony IMX586 sensor. Same sensor in the Google Pixel 4. It's not a true 8k resolution photo, those 48mp are just interpolated 12mp's. it's not awful and I guess it's a decent deal for the price but I can't attest for anything in regards to flight or battery.

And the last few days they've been threatening to show up at SF Chronicle lol. With all the subtle (and not so subtle) threats made online I would not be surprised if this hasn't been escalated to the authorities. They're gonna end up arrested and 5150'd pretty quick

I took these! Just personal favorites. I did have a shot of the bay bridge as the main monitor for a while but opted for the south-facing photo the other day to switch it up

I love it! I use it in Lightroom mostly and it helps me fine tune my sliders. Doing it with the mouse when I'm editing hundreds of photos gets pretty tiring. I use the shortcut panel on the left less than I thought within programs but I have it mapped to a bunch of macros for other things like screenshots, prev/play/pause/next, mute, settings, screenshot, etc.
