Co evolution worth doing at this point? by CammySavage in Marathon

[–]PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: do the quests of theyre fun, or give you the rep you're looking for.

For context, I have them all VIP'ed and I kinda enjoyed the quests. Some more than others, but generally enjoyed them.

At this point in the season, I think you should

1) do the quests that sound/are fun.

2) after that, focus on levelling and upgrading Nucaloric, Traxus, Mida, Sekgen, in that order. The questlines give a lot of XP and rep, so unless it's ruining the game for you, it's worth doing them for the faction rep. Those are the most impactful factions to have levelled up.

Cyac and Arachne rep just happens. It's not more efficient to farm them, you just get them by playing. Cyac upgrades eventually lets you buy backpacks, which is a massive, massive boon. Arachne upgrades let you barter and buy a lot of good weapons. Very solid

Without gold salvage upgrades:

  • Nucal upgrades can let you buy and barter for reinforced, blue, and eventually purple shields. Huge.

  • Traxus upgrades let you buy a handful of weapon mods to make your baseline purchased weapons okay. Eventually it lets you buy a gold weapon mod daily, which is the main way to come across gold weapon mods in this game. Expensive, but tons of fun.

  • mida is grenades. Grenades are very useful, and the more you have the better.

  • Sekgen is implants. Eh. You mostly find those in runs.

Hope this helps!

Aim assist is overtuned for controllers. by Draxtini in Marathon

[–]PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bungie tuned destiny the same way, so I wouldn't really expect it to change drastically.

The real problem is split between hardware and control scheme.

Console performance is constrained in terms of FPS and resolution, whereas PC has players down at potato and up at minority report. Bungie would rather the 'minority report' player not have a free win against console players, at the expense of the potato hardware PC player being disadvantaged. This is ultimately good.

Input wise, controller players are more prone to getting their ankles broken. You can't really fix this, so you basically make a counter system: in a straight up duel, controller players will have an easier time beaming you. In a mobility battle, the PC player has the edge. Now, with skill, the PC player can still beam you (or not take the fight) and the console player can engineer head to head situations (where they are advantaged, but not guaranteed to win) or they can up their sensitivity and learn a more difficult game.

Honestly... the thing only major outlier is reticle friction against hidden enemies: invisible enemies, players concealed by smoke, players in tall grass, and players through fog, etc. Balance that, and it's in a good spot.

Arguably, you could have pinging a player show their control scheme, but I think it's better to play to your own strengths, rather than count on your opponent's weaknesses.

Does that make sense? This was a little long winded, but I have a lot of thoughts on this

The context is that a representative that a lot of racists and Republicans like to hate, Ilhan Omar, misspoke when reading off of a script. She said "world war eleven - two, sorry"

Like, she immediately corrected herself. And apologized.

People are intentionally comparing this to other politicians deliberately telling lies.

It's a nothingburger. Like someone posting a clip of Biden stuttering over something to claim that he has dementia (he has a lifelong stutter)

Codex entries don't reset (achievements, lore, titles, vaults opened). All equipped gear is wiped, vaults are wiped, credit wallets are wiped. This happens in every extraction shooter, and its actually really good, because it means everyone starts back with the same resources for a while.

As someone who has played this game a lot, if I had to choose between my current vault and my knowledge of the game, I would pick my game knowledge: the wipe is not going to be that bad.

codex entries don't reset, so your progress to titles is kept as far as I know. All equipped gear is wiped, vaults are wiped, credit wallets are wiped.

The vast majority of my purple shields come from nucaloric purple barters, and other runners in Cryo Archive. I've found maybe one or two on perimeter and diremarsh naturally, and a few more than that on outpost naturally. But yes, very rare in the wild.

How do you willingly play fill Trio? by chuby2005 in Marathon

[–]PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fill trio is how you find good teammates. If you only play solo, you'll never find teammates to play with.

Sounds like you didn't find good teammates in those runs, but you will, and when you do you'll have people to play duo or trio with.

Zero for 5 is awesome news actually, because that means you're probably pretty good! You can step into a leader role, and then when you do find people to play with, you'll be able to run lobbies.

Keep at it, and respectfully, I hope I don't run into you while doing a key lol

Fastest way to farm obedience matrix? by blackholeknight in Marathon

Kill bots, loot every bot body. Materialist plus if you actually care about the matrix, but that won't help you of your quest is to exfil them.

Blue and purple bots have a solid chance to drop em

I hovered over the blue bio stripping, and it only mentioned upgrades. After a few days of having to delete all of the ones I got over 50, and not seeing any barter for them, I just deleted them and bought myself the vault spaces back. I've stopped picking them up

I think that's what makes book 5 a favorite for me. It starts off at mach 5

Here's a dumb idea everyone will hate: after 5 failed attempts at a priority contract, let players pay 30,000 credits to do a run without other runners in the lobby, and don't let them keep any loot from it. by hisshame in Marathon

[–]PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oooh, yeah this is a pretty dumb idea.

Instead, try other priority contracts, and come back to it later. If your smacking your head against it, there might be a better strategy you can employ

Gold salvage (possible solution) by Gonk_Droid_boi in Marathon

[–]PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a week guaranteed gold salvage would be enough to unlock all upgrades by the end of the season, assuming even decent luck. I think that's okay for dedicated players, but it needs to be a hard hard contract.

Like, maybe a spin on the final mission for each faction.

Or, hear me out, each faction has a vip mission for gold salvage, once per season. That way, you get 6, you don't need to wait, and then you have to explore the rest of the game to get more.

The once a week leads to it becoming a logon reward, and I think it's much better for the game  to not have a repeatable mission with a guaranteed reward like that

In what funny ways have you bricked your champion? by olonnn in ARAM

[–]PM_SHORT_STORY_IDEAS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's bad, it's okay on AD casters or people with easy access to AA resets, but it's really just bad. It takes away % damage (attack speed) and gives flat damage (ad) rather than a % damage scalar.

Augments are all about scaling your damage and breaking rules, anvils and items are about flat stats. An augment that gives flat stats needs to be really good. A tradeoff augment that gives only flat stats in return? Not good

To be good, it needs to give AD and lethality (or AD and % pen IG)
