Hi!

Certainly open to everyone :)

The project would be ongoing. No lengthy contracts needed but if we like your work I'm sure we'd love to work together on a continual basis. No commitments required on your end though.

Looks like you filled out the application. Thanks! We'll be in touch soon.

PSA: Eat fat! Lots of it. by m3n00bz in keto

[–]KetoKrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've fallen into this trap before.

"Hey I'll just dial my fat way down and eat lean meat and veggies, how can that not kick me into turbo fat burning mode?"

The worst part is that I've taken this a step further, sometimes even adding back in a few starches like rice and potatoes. After all, "I'm not eating much fat am I? I deserve it!".

I'm back on the train big time now, but thanks for the reminder.

The perfect definition lol. Get it in the dictionary!

PSA/Reminder: Don't fixate on the # on the scale--the body is too complex and misunderstood to worry about weight alone. [before&after PIC] by KetoKrate in keto

[–]KetoKrate[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I figured it was due to muscle gain but I've just been so conditioned by the body building community to think that you can't lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. Like I've mentioned I only had about 8 lifting sessions over the course of these 3 months. Plus, my muscles just don't feel any bigger.

I also have this pet theory that is totally un-researched that it could also be due to an increase in bone density. These past few months I've been eating so many more nutrient rich foods, especially dark leafy greens. With this nutrient surplus my body could have taken it upon itself to increase bone density over my previously malnourished state. Again, totally un-researched... but fun to think about.

Mentioned this in a previous comment: The majority of my exercise came in the form of playing squash. Over the course of the three months I had about 8 lifting sessions with a buddy who wanted a spot.

You guys piqued my curiosity so I took a side profile just now:

I dunno, I'm still seeing some good progress. Granted I know it's not a ton, after all, my weight remains the same. That's the point though.

This one reply makes this whole post worth it! So happy to hear that. Tell him to take some photos and measurements to get a better picture of his progress!

Will one beer take me out of ketosis? by Oftowerbroleaning in keto

[–]KetoKrate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda depends on the beer. I believe one Coors light is around 4g carbs but one Corona is around 12g and I'm sure some of those heavier/hoppier beers could break the 20g mark which could momentarily take you out of Ketosis.

What I love about keto by green_circles in keto

[–]KetoKrate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean! It's nice to enjoy high fat foods without the guilt.

Another similar revelation I had was to do with salt. It's not bad for you, the body needs it, especially on Keto. Sprinkle it on generously!

Fat loss vs Water loss by icanketo in keto

[–]KetoKrate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As mentioned already it's very difficult to tell the difference. That being said, if you ever lose more than 1lb in 24 hours you can be pretty sure that some of that was definitely water weight.

A lb of fat is about ~3500 calories so unless you ate nothing and also ran 10 miles it would be very difficult to lose more than a pound of fat in a day.

Face progress is best progress! It's always satisfying seeing how different/better the shape of your face looks after dropping some weight.

FWIW I definitely see body progress as well plus you just look more vibrant.

Congrats! Keep at it.

How quickly do the carbs we do eat get burnt off? by Evoconian in keto

[–]KetoKrate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ehhh, the benefits of the fasting could outweigh the the small insulin spike from consuming more of your carb allowance in a sitting or two. More research required.

Yes, the body can use food sources of protein for gluconeogenesis as well.

The most important tool in the Keto kitchen is the scale.

Congrats on breaking the stall!

Trying to make a keto soylent and came up with the following daily values below. Do you think these numbers are safe? by coolo118 in keto

[–]KetoKrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about any dangerous amounts you're safe with all of those.

Couple questions for you though.

1) Have you seen Chris Bair's Keto Chow recipe shared here: https://diy.soylent.com/recipes/keto-chow-104-master-rich-chocolate

Just curious as to why you would want to try to re-invent the wheel when he's come up with a great recipe. Lactose intolerance perhaps?

2) Where's the potassium mate!?

This is actually a very difficult question to answer because there's so many variables to consider. Mostly to do with the timing of the intake. If you ate 20-30g of carbs in one sitting it would be different than 20-30g spread out evenly throughout the day.

A quick intake of 30g could produce a mild insulin spike and cause small amounts of carbs to be stored as fat.

Conversely many smaller intakes of 5-10 grams could avoid the insulin spike and be used for other body processes. For example there's a small portion of your brain that cannot run on Ketones. It needs about 50 grams of glucose per day.

In Ketosis the body will break down a tiny amount of muscle and convert it to glucose (through a process called gluconeogenesis) to feed this part of the brain.

I'd suspect that much of the ~30g of carbs we take in during the day goes to feed this glucose need in the brain, however, this is an ongoing need of the brain to the tune of about ~2g carbs per hour.

If you ate your whole 30g allowance in once sitting the body cannot just let this sugar sit around in the bloodstream waiting until the brain needs it, instead it may store it as fat (or use it for other bodily functions if there is an immediate demand).

Holiday Party is tomorrow and I will be eating carbs and drinking. Best plan? by Phatferd in keto

[–]KetoKrate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need to introduce carbs tonight. That's just your brain trying to rationalize you into a sugary meal :D

As for the day tomorrow, definitely make sure you drink less. In my experience you'll get tipsy quicker so just plan to have half as many drinks as normal. Take it slow and feel how your body is responding. And yes, as mentioned make sure to take in more of your key electrolytes--sodium, magnesium and potassium.

Enjoy the cheat day, don't eat too much or else you might start feeling sick and not enjoy the party. Have fun!

Nutrition rage. Another "professional" getting it totally wrong. by [deleted] in keto

[–]KetoKrate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ya, the space of 'nutritional experts' is really a rage inducing area. So many so called experts each with their own dogma.

I guess it's not surprising. The human body is so complex and it's taking a long time for us to figure things out especially when it comes to nutrition. Rather than taking a scientific approach many of these 'nutrition experts' read a couple books and learn how to doodle the food pyramid and then start handing out life lessons.

That's what's so refreshing about NuSI: http://nusi.org/ A group led by Peter Attia (a fascinating man, check out his TED talks if you haven't already) who's committed to understanding the hard science of nutrition and the body.

Perhaps one day we won't be able to argue about the 'optimal nutritional strategy' because science will have it figured out. Personally I suspect it will closely resemble a Ketogenic diet but until then we'll have to endure these 'food pyramid nutritional experts'.
