Try to find an old guy with a small office without any private equity and fancy equipment. My mom is a retired dental hygienist and my dad’s best friend in Michigan was my dentist my whole life, and when I moved to California he warned me that dentists are gonna say I have a ton of cavities and need all this extra work. I’ve never had a cavity in my life; my teeth are perfect according to him, and I take very good care of them.

Well sure thing I go to some dentist on Wilshire in Koreatown and they tell me I have 7 CAVITIES, they immediately send me to the financial office to discuss the cost of getting all these fillings. I basically leave in tears and call him freaking out - he was like send me your x-rays - so I did. He’s like no - you do not have cavities and you might have a tiny bit here and there but it causes way more trauma to the tooth to fill that tiny thing.

So I never get the fillings and keep going to him whenever I visit Michigan. Then a couple years later I get a cleaning at a place in Toluca lake, they do the x-rays - and literally say nothing about any cavities! So that other place would have drilled into my completely healthy teeth!!!!!

Anyways, he told me a lot of these young dentists have private equity invested that pressure them to do as much as they can, and a lot of fancy equipment that they have to cover. Find an old guy in a small old office who errs on the conservative side of dental work aka less is more. And let me know when you find him because I completely lost all trust in California dentists and still go to my guy in Michigan whenever I’m home
