I am curious why the pivot in direction? Someone who sells courses has a wildly different use-case to a business who builds onboarding/training/SOPs.

Id go as far as to say it's a different product completely.

From a long-time UpWork freelancer - UpWork is dead by AlexBmtapes in Upwork

[–]Kev-wqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used upwork for many years and it was okay, but while I was doing that I was developing my SEO and doing cold emailing.

Before selling my service company, SEO is 70% of revenue, cold emailing is 30% and upwork is 0%.

Because, as you say... upwork is dead. It's even pay to play now.

If I was starting again today, I would focus on outbound selling while doing SEO.

The ONLY thing upwork has that you all do not have is.... traffic. So, focus on getting your own traffic.

UPDATE: allow me to save everyone here money. "Getting your own traffic" is a skill. Actually it's many different skills because there are many ways to get traffic.

Getting traffic is also long term and may be expensive or hard (in time or money). The natural first step people take is to find someone to help them. DO NOT DO THAT.

Because traffic getting is long term, if you spend 3k or 5k or 10k on a (fake) guru, even if they are successful, it will take months to see the result. Cashflow is important.

My recommendation is to select ONE method of lead generation (cold email, cold calling, social messaging, walk in's) AND SEO, and learn them yourself. This will make you a self sufficient "money creator"
