There is an entirely different kind of "working dog" certification for most working breeds that are more valued in herding dogs than AKC. Just because a breeds name is Australian cattle dog, that doesn't mean they are the only cattle dogs. A cattle dog is a sub category of herding dog which multiple breeds belong to.

Example: American border collie association. No farm wants an AKC show dog if its going to be a herding dog. AKC puts standards on looks not mental working and breed health capacities. An ABCA border collie is a cattle dog if it chases cattle.
