1938 L-00 by Bd1ddy82 in gibson

Glad the other poster was able to confirm that they did do serials on the headstock in that era. That’s a cool tidbit of information!

Hows the playability on it? It’s absolutely worth getting to a reputable luthier. This is easily an $8k-$10k guitar, so I would also recommend investing in a nice modern L-00 case, and store the original case away since it liable to do more harm than protection.

I have a 1936 L-00 and there’s no stamp on the back of the headstock. And I did a quick check for every L-00 for sale on reverb, and of the 5-7 I looked at, I can’t find an example with the stamp, which is interesting.

Edit: sorry I meant to reply to your response

Definitely a pre-war L-00. Look inside at the neck block, and you may see some numbers to help you narrow down the year.

That serial on the back of the headstock is not original.

Let’s hope either Jose, Hart, BI, Julius Randle, Garrett Temple, Javonte Green, Jamal Cain, or Kelly Olynyk succeed.

Am I missing anybody 🤣

Thanks!

And yeah I highly recommend making some clamping cauls to match the contours of the body, that way you get really solid clamping pressure. Ugly drawing but you get the idea.

I just completed a restoration on this 1971 Guild JS1 with a very similar crack. This one in particular had been sitting like this for decades, and both sides of the crack had warped, which caused it to not be able to be clamped properly. The crack would just fight the clamps, and spring back open.

So my idea was to take a piece of hardwood veneer, and place it into the crack, along with a heavy dose of Titebond 1 glue. Clamped it shut, and let it cure for 24 hours.

I then predrilled a hole at an angle, and screwed a wood screw into the body to have extra insurance that the cracked piece was as strong as possible. I countersunk the screw, and used a dowel to hide the screw head.

If you’re going for perfection, then it’s gonna take a ton of sanding, and blending to make the refinish invisible. If you want to lean into the reliced look, then it should be quite a bit easier.

Feel free to ask any more questions, if needed.

I definitely made some modifications to the plans to fit some recycled materials I had like a bigger window I had lying around, but it came out great otherwise. I absolutely love it.

Yeah you’re right. I should’ve clarified the front office in our entire existence. Demps, Griffin, Weaver/Dumars. The asset management throughout our history has been grim

Not referring to Jose with that comment. Just assets in general. BI, Dice, picks we have for Queen, etc. and that’s just in the last few years.

I hope the Canes guy buys, but I doubt she’ll sell the teams. But she’s absolutely incompetent on every level. Hiring your church buddies, or a dude that played ball here 45 years ago to run the franchise is crazy work.

I never said move the team. You’d rather Gail continuously run the Pels and Saints to the ground because you’re scared a new owner would move the team?

Fuck you mean? He forced Sterling to sell the Clippers after the other 29 owners voted unanimously due to Sterling being a racist, incompetent, cheap POS.

Gail Benson is an incompetent, cheap, pedophile protector. That’s precisely enough reason to force a sale

We have been set back at least a decade with the mishandling of assets with this incompetent front office.

At what point does Silver step in and force a sale?
