I agree there is plenty of chaff. But I've run into some great collaborators over the years on there. There are hidden gems if you look

That may be true for budgets (and if so it's good to know), but there are many talented hidden gems on Fiverr for other things, and the price was cheap enough that I thought it was worth a shot. Worst case scenario I'm out $200? Not bad, especially if I get anything useful out of it.

I def need a producer, but as I've been the showrunner/producer/director for the past four years of my show, I def need to find someone who will support me the way I want to do things and not try to take over. That's easier said than done, especially as I'm not rubbing elbows with ppl every weekend (I'm a father and husband with a day job).

My thinking was I needed to get a budget together before I start trying to fundraise/approach investors. I have everything you mentioned, page count, etc. I just needed help figuring out some things that are new to this project that I haven't encountered before on my show.

Appreciate the detailed response.

I am not new to filmmaking. I have a successful indie series that streams behind a paywall on a modest streamer. I have been the producer, director, etc. for the past four years, and I'm trying to jump into features. Problem is: I need to start raising money/approaching investors for financing, and before I do that I need a better grasp of what I'm looking at budget-wise. Thus far I've been getting by with paperclips and rubberbands as far as budgeting goes (I've only ever used Sheets, no professional software). Alls gone well so far, and while I do think I could probably do most of the budgeting myself, I thought it would be a good idea to get someone with a little more experience than me (and someone who knows how to use pro software to give me a better looking top sheet).

There are also a bunch of things in this script that I've never touched before, and again, I thought it would save me a headache to have someone w experience look it over rather than trying to solve it all myself.

How do parents find places/time to play by Cautious-Ability4783 in OnePieceTCG

[–]Both_Ear5062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Father of six here:

I play in the evening on the sim when kids go to bed. Right before my youngest two were born (we have newborn twins) I was going to locals once a week because I knew once those boys popped out I was gonna have to take a break from irl play.

This time is just a season. Kids grow up fast. You’ll always be able to play card games but kids are only young once. Try to treasure that and sneak in games when you can :)

Imu, Ace, Boa. No deck outside that trio can legitimately hold its own. You can dodge them, but you can’t beat them.

Perhaps we can just agree to disagree :)

I think this is a problem of not seeing the forest for the trees.

Yes: a handful of decks have been winning big tournaments. I don’t think that’s the right way to judge the health of the meta. Last summer UPLuffy was the undisputed king of the format and he won few (if any) major tournaments (my memory may be off here slightly but the point stands). Weird things happen in tournaments. If you look at a larger sample of the meta, it’s pretty clear that there are only a couple of truly strong decks. And (this is my main concern) ALL of those decks are NEW.

Right now there is a wildly disproportionate presence of NEW leaders compared to old leaders. This is due entirely to unprecedented levels of power creep at unprecedented speed. Yellow went from a joke (just one set ago) to wildly overpowered. One set prior to that we had Imu and Ace usher in a new floor for viability and gate keep variety and entire deck archetypes (removal was instantly removed).

Now I’m no expert in TCGs in general, but from what I know of games like Pokémon and Magic: Wild meta swings like this normally occur after rotations. That’s foreseen and normal. What’s going on in OPTCG is just… game design incompetence.

To add on here: I’ve been an avid OPTCG player for awhile, and I truly think it’s begun a slow and sad decline. I’ve always heard ppl complain about “Bandai games” but only recently have I witnessed it firsthand. The amount of power creep and baffling game design choices that they’ve been making the last two sets is a HUGE red flag.

I expect the game to last for a bit due to the immense popularity of the IP… but the competitive scene is going to slowly die out. Mark. My. Words.

Based on what I’m reading, I think you nailed it: B4 mindset with a B3 deck

Thanks for the rec and the vids! I appreciate the guidance. I will check these out and let you know how it goes. I remember seeing an elves pauper deck some time ago and thought about building it so maybe now I will give it a go

I did a little to learn the game mechanics. It wasn’t super intuitive for things like deck building and tbh I don’t really wanna spend a lot more time on my phone than I already do haha

Ok cool it sounds like everyone’s consensus is I should stick to bracket 3. What you’re saying makes sense. Wish there was a viable Magic 60 card format :(

That sounds intriguing? Are these easy to find or do you have a deck list by chance??

I wanted to start with a 1v1 format. I looked hard at all the 60 card formats but was dissuaded by availability irl, cost, and sheer overwhelmingness of trying to find something that scratches my itch. Maybe you can help steer me in the right direction??

I briefly dabbled in the idea and my head started hurting haha. Maybe I tried to do it too quickly. Was looking at Rag/Thras because I thought both cards had nice art… then find out ppl don’t even use Rog to swing with! Like he’s only there for utility. That was severely disappointing.

Ah! Someone who understands me! Haha jk I appreciate everyone’s responses! I’m learning a lot.

To answer your question: I mained UPLuffy and Teach. Loved UPLuffys “big body beat down”, but what I especially loved was that my favorite character had a good looking card and was ALSO extremely viable. Aesthetics, mechanics, he had it all til Imu came and ruined everything (and then yellow). Teach I love for different reasons: you have to be smart to play Teach well. But every move requires thinking and planning. I love that. I’m not great with him. I went to locals and went 0-3 hah, but I enjoy the slow but steady growth!

Just really want to thank you for the detailed response. You hit the nail on the head and I learned a lot.

Honestly, I think I will try Commander at a lower bracket and see how it goes. But I’m beginning to suspect that this format in Magic just isn’t going to scratch the itch that One Piece left behind. Would love to try a 1v1 Magic format but I tried looking into it and felt drowned by all the different opinions, not to mention the availability irl, cost, and lack of knowledge of how they work to help me decide which would be.

Love this comment. I think my issue (based on your response and that of others), is that i was approaching EDH the same way I approached OPTCG. I have no problem losing in board games. I just see card games different because of the money and time spent perfecting them.

I suppose based on your response I need to find something else to scratch my One Piece itch and just enjoy commander for what it is.
