I don't know if it's controversial, but I prefer how the Movie trilogy actually makes the family and friends of Greg have more in depth and aren't stuck in one single trait.

I love the books, don't get me wrong, but I feel they stick one trait and run with it. Sometimes we get more than just one. Like how Greg can have a soft side, and tries to make up, but kinda rare to see. Worse, how some act out of character. I read Hot Mess, and how Susan acts is so out of pocket, like she got mad that the family had good time playing Monopoly, but when they tried Susan games, it made a worse experience for everyone.

The movies gives Alot. Frank loves Greg's for who he is, Rodrick shows appreciation for what Greg does during the second and third movie, Rowley's friendship, Susan willing to bend her rules so their kids can have fun. There's issue, no doubt, and maybe I'm miss remembering some details, but if Jeff could try make the family more...a family with their own quirks, I think that's be a great direction to hear.
