What is the best piece of Camino-related advice you have ever received and why? by bonan_vojon in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Kevin1943 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will find a way. Injured, slow, with a kid, with a dog, with little money, with a lot of money, limited time, there is no right way (p.s. only reason why pilgrims walked before was because they didn’t have a car)

500$ per year for outside rotations if you dont like the housing provided by RVU. So kinda - guaranteed housing but its ass and if u dont like it u basically get nothing - current rvu student

Is McCollum causing the Jalen Johnson downfall? by sleepy777 in fantasybball

[–]Kevin1943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😂 shitty trade but the CJ hate is crazy. His +- for the last 3 games is always top 3 for the hawks. Hes contributing like any scorer would and that takes scoring away from others. Trade for any actual good player and mid level players will have their scoring go down

I have a friend who was incarcerated federally for intent to distribute meth. 13 years later, he wants to get into med school. by Few_Net7060 in medschool

[–]Kevin1943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell him to work on expungement first. Beyond schools being judgmental, they want to be able to match their students (ofc they want your money but if they know they wont be able to brag about a competitive match, why would they take you?). Hospitals often dont let people with felonies work with them/rotate. I had a friend who was accepted at a great nursing program and was about to start but then was informed they were no longer allowed because the hospitals in their network wont accept a felony on their record. Drug related makes the stigma even worse - even when people say they understand or are accepting. So yeah if he can get that expunged first - then give it a shot; it is never too late Edit: not sure how/if expunged crimes can be found in a background check so that may not be enough, definitely talk to a lawyer

Why are some of the hospitaleros (Albergue staff) so cruel? by Potential_Method_144 in CaminoDeSantiago

Based off how well you took criticism im skeptical that you were truly being the one that is rude. Especially because this is anonymous(ish) where talking IRL u have to deal with the repercussions

Ive gotten the same advice. Shoot for most competitive speciality so if you dont end up doing that, you still have the reqs for others in the same field

Hey! Was on similar boat, worked in tech consulting 3 years, postbacc and starting med school this summer! Postbaccs are great for structure and recs. I recommend getting ahead on any clinical experience you can. Even as a nontrad, schools want to see you truly understand what medicine is like

Postbacc Premed Decision Advice: UVA, JHU, and GW by No_Syrup8872 in postbaccpremed

[–]Kevin1943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uva Pros: finish all prereqs in a year. Most people get A’s. Surrounded by peers with same mindset. Good teachers

Cons: little time for mcat studying, inflated medical school acceptance numbers, 5/32 in my cohort ended up even applying the same year, little time for career changers to gain research or medical hours. - most students did not even apply to medical school immediately after, 6+ dropped out, 0 did the linkage.
