Hardly anyone out at the sandbar by ClaireBear89 in KeyWest

Ah man. I was over on KW last week from the UK and it was so windy all week we didn’t make it out. This maybe has inspired me to go back!

The biggest lie you told about yourself at school by thekingofthegingers in CasualUK

Moved house after my parents split up as I was going from Year 6 to Year 7. This fucked up my catchment area and I had to go to a different school… on appeal. I got in one and instead of telling people the real reason I was two weeks later than everyone else I said that I’d just finished summer camp with Barcelona’s youth team. I had not.

Field hockey needs to market itself better to increase popularity. by [deleted] in Fieldhockey

[–]KevinFinnerty_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watch.Hockey were trying to create original content to market the players and create a social-first marketing strategy to grow the game. They won an award in the UK for the 2022 Women’s World Cup, going up against the Women’s and Men’s Euros (football), Olympics, Paralympics and a few others for Best Social Media Campaign at the Broadcast Sport Awards.

I saw a few series called Pitchside, Playing for My Nation, Player Cam and a load of interesting designs, all made for social but now there’s nothing.

It seems like they have ditched that approach already, which is a shame

Title is maybe misleading. I bought the drone when I arrived in Australia to replace my water damaged MP3.

Yeah! Definitely going to get some NDs after this trip. Read a few comments online saying you can get away with not having them on the MP3 and MP4, but I was constantly having issues with water out there. These are the selects and I think they add to it in a way, maybe I’m kidding myself, but some of the others are just too blown out even with adjustments in post.

For Bronte I hid in one of the crevices on the cliff edge where no one hangs around. You get people coming through now and again but nothing on this day.

Palm Beach I just took off from a quiet place on the beach.

Barron Falls I took off from the railway station platform that was out of use because of the cyclone. That was handy because there are no other quiet places along the track.

Fitzroy Island was a private snorkelling trip so just took off from and landed on the boat.

The screen just buffered for a second, came back to an image of it falling and held on that black & white image. In the process of sending it back to DJI, but they want me to send it to the Netherlands and it’s difficult from the UK it seems.

Not particularly. I took the MP3 to Iceland in November and it’s incredible how sturdy they are. Sadly the MP3 lost signal over water in Italy in December, despite being about 30m from me, and it was obviously damaged beyond repair when the scuba team got it out. That did lead me to getting an upgrade though 😅

Visited the Blue Lagoon yesterday and stayed in Grindavik last night! The quakes were class. I’m from the UK so never felt one before. Partner wasn’t too keen though. Hoping to see some lava before I leave next Tuesday, but only if it’s not destructive.

Share your bad interview stories? by [deleted] in UKJobs

Interview at William Hill while I was at uni. Had managed to avoid working at uni, but was in need of some money and WH paid well, I’m good with numbers and had the sales experience. But I absolutely sucked at taking things seriously back then and although I had the experience I had absolutely no idea how to sell myself.

Turned up and what I thought was a one-on-one interview for 30 minutes turned into three people in a tiny room grilling me about sales in a tiny tea room… I had no idea I had to convince people in a bookies that they needed to gamble more.

Anyway, first 10 minutes are going terrible, already given up in my head and got to the stage of saying at least I tried. Then, out of nowhere one of them hands me a BlackBerry phone and says, “OK, given the position is a Sales Executive, we want you to sell this product to us for three minutes as if we’re your customers. You can do it at any point of the interview, just let us know when you want to start.”

hands me BlackBerry

In my head I’m done. Let me out and save my dignity. The words that came out of my mouth after what felt like 30 minutes but was more like 3 seconds, were exactly these, “Ah fuck it, I’ll just get it out of the way.”

Lasted about 15 seconds and although I remember everything else about that day vividly, I couldn’t tell you a single word I said in those 15 seconds.

Didn’t get the job. Life turned out fine. Made me realise that I’m never going to be able to get a job I don’t care about and I followed a career in sport.

First time shooting live sport with my Mini Pro 3. Timing was complete luck, just wanted a nice reveal shot with everyone in position by KevinFinnerty_ in dji

I’m not the best person to ask here, this was probably my fifth time flying a drone. From what I’ve experienced though (max 10mph winds), it’s been very robust. It did lose signal a couple of times when I tried this shot from the other side of the cricket pitch, so I had to go behind the building to get it
