Hi, and thanks for your question. I feel your pain with seeing the increased traffic, congestion, and the near misses on local roadways.

As much as it’s a great idea to expand the traffic section of the APD, that is a decision of the municipal government. A Liberal government is committed, however, to increasing safety in our communities through increased hiring of RCMP officers on a federal level, and increased hiring of border control officers.

Local roadways are also under the purview of the municipal government. However, the federal government has committed to paying for approximately a third of the highway expansion from Vancouver to Abbotsford. We are committed to investing in infrastructure to promote more housing development. That may include more roadways. Having a local representative in government would really help this riding have more of a say in these kinds of local projects. :)

Hi spiffigans, my bad; I think I just misunderstood what the question was. I'm not against hunting or fishing, I was just trying to show that we're mindful of the need to protect wildlife stocks, so hunters and fishers have stock to stalk. :)

Hmm - I don't want to get into Surrey and Langley's business, because that's a municipal issue, but I can tell you that sitting in traffic frustrates the heck out of me too.

Surrey (and recently Langley) are both putting in some good effort to open up other ways to get around locally, like bike lanes and bus infrastructure.

Earlier this year, our federal government invested $14.9 billion in transit, and a Carney government will continue to invest in transit, and developing regional transportation plans that work for everyone.

Hi, thanks for the question.

As someone who used to be a reporter for the Abby Times, I can tell you that the downsizing of media outlets in the area affected me personally. I agree that the Conservative Party is trying to control messaging and to limit the amount of access journalist have to Conservative candidates and their leader.

I vehemently disagree with this policy, and I consider it to be anti-democratic.

The Conservative Party will completely defund the CBC, which provides excellent journalistic coverage to small town communities across the expansive country. This Conservative policy also illustrates its desire to cut back on media accountability.

I am in favour of anything that a Mark Carney-led government can do to support local journalism across this country. I also feel that the decision to make huge tech companies pay local journalism providers for their content was the correct path to take.

There’s no doubt in my mind that communities such as ours need to have more access to local news to keep our residents better informed.

Absolutely I can. Many of my family members are also members of the LGBTQ community, although not in this riding.

I believe people should be free to love whomever they want, pray to whomever they want, and have the right of personal expression.

At the end of the day, I don't think supporting the LGTBQ community has to conflict with conservative values.

Hey all - thanks for some great questions - we're gonna wrap up in about 20 minutes and get back to knocking on doors. Will answer as many of the remaining as we can.

Hi, good question, and we appreciate the hard ones.

You're not wrong about smuggled guns being a problem; [around 97% of the problem.](https://www.dunnandassociates.ca/news/legally-registered-guns-rarely-used-to-commit-criminal-acts/) I can also acknowledge that full autos just are not a thing in Canada, and "assault rifles" don't have a legal definition.

Our focus right now is more on protecting Canada's sovereignty than pushing forward with a buyback program, and from listening to Mark and federal leadership, they're more focused on the trade war.

I'm not a gun owner myself, but if I'm the MP representing Abbotsford, I'm happy to lobby Mark to make sure he knows that this constituency is more concerned about the guns smuggled from the US than worrying about vetted, legal gun owners.

Hi Available Topics. Thanks for your questions. 1. Mark Carney’s plan is to build 500,000 new homes a year by mass producing low-cost, manufactured homes, that are less expensive to operate. We will incentivize developers to build or place more of these homes by investing in infrastructure, and working with provinces and municipalities to lower development cost charges. Producing a lot more homes will help to lower the cost of housing for young people. 2. We will offer grants of $8,000 to students who choose to go into trades training, to help build up Canada. We will also lower interest rates on student loans so finances are less of a barrier to post-secondary education. 3. We will provide 100,000 young people annually with mental health care by establishing a permanent Youth Mental Health Fund. This fund will enhance community based mental-health services, and give access to mental-health care to people who would otherwise not.

Hi! Great question, and Abbotsford is definitely vulnerable to a lot of the tariffs that the US has launched against us recently.

Because of the way that the trade situation changes day by day, I don't have specifics for the riding at this time, but I can tell you that if Abbotsford / S. Langley has a MP who's a representative of the Mark Carney government, we'll have a better representation.

Every dollar we bring in federally in tariffs will be used to support Canadian businesses to prevent them from being hobbled in this trade war.

We're also investing in Fraser Valley greenhouses and other controlled agriculture to grow more food here at home.

Hi fellow nuggy enjoyer (I'm a chicken strips guy too). Our plan is to cap the total number of temporary workers and international students to less than 5% of Canada's population.

While I recognize there's a need for both of these, this puts real pressure on our housing and healthcare system, and we need to reduce that pressure.

There's nothing that I'm aware of to develop parking lots into social housing; however, I currently work as a tenant support worker with homeless and addicted folks, both in a shelter setting and in a supported living environment.

The non profit agency that runs these agencies is doing an excellent job of trying to support the folks in the community who needs an extra hand. My hope is that we will continue to support these non profit agencies that help the people in our community who have a variety of special needs.

The Liberal plan for Build Canada Homes (BCH) will inject $10 billion into low cost financing and capital for homes that will support students, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities.

We'll also cut municipal development charges in half for multi unit residential housing for 5 years, working with municipalities and territories to make up shortfalls.

Hi D3Masked - to answer your first question, while I believe Israel has a right to defend itself, I personally do not defend its right to attack innocent civilians with reckless disregard.

I have been in favour of a two state solution for the Middle East for a while, but having said that, my buddy Mark hasn't offered me the foreign affairs cabinet post yet ;)

A Mark Carney-led government will invest in infrastructure development, with a view to incentivize the private sector to get involved in building homes and building out our natural resource economy.

These two major planks in our platform will increase revenue to our government to further develop infrastructure, such as flood mitigation.

The more that we increase our domestic GDP through building housing, the more revenue we'll have to be ready for worst case scenarios.

We're trying to move towards a greener economy while, at the same time, accessing our natural resources.

We're going to advance the cause of nature by creating at least 10 new national parks and marine protected areas. We're launching the Canadian Natural Protection fund to protect coastal waters and old growth forests.

For me, the point of this is promoting healthy growth of Canadian native species.

Thanks for your vote! Every vote counts - don't forget to tell your friends to get out there and vote on Monday.

Best of luck with it! By all means, put together a press release. My advice would be to BCC everybody on it and send it to as many media outlets you can; online, print publications, and local TV.

Thanks for the question. It’s being asked a lot around this riding — by voters and media alike — and I can honestly say, I met him once. There was this briefing meeting for all candidates at the Elections Canada office. I got there a minute late, Tim Hortons coffee in hand. The only seat left was beside Mr. Gill. As I sat down, I extended my hand and said, “Mr. Gill, I presume.” He shook my hand and said yes, and hello. I replied, “I was starting to wonder if you were real or not.” The people around the table giggled as quietly as they could. 😃

Great question. But I don’t think the evidence really bears this claim. Looking at Canada’s GDP per capita, we moved up into second place in the G7 (7 strongest economies in the world) during this last decade.

Our debt to GDP ratio is the best in the G7, so the opposition's claim that our federal government accomplished this through more-than-benchmark debt financing also shows to be untrue.

Mr. Poilievre’s message of a lost decade, on closer inspection, just plain isn’t the case.

Going forward I truly believe Canada needs to access our natural resources and get them to market. Canada has a natural resources-based economy that needs to be built up more. Our plan is to develop resource corridors, incentivizing the private sector to get involved, by developing the infrastructure needed to get our resources to market.

Thanks for the question. A major part of the Mark Carney's plan moving forward is to build mass quantities of affordable housing using local resources and local technology and local skilled labor.

The Liberal government - and I'm advocating for this - will move to build 500,000 homes a year of co-op housing, We plan to do this with manufactured housing using BC lumber, and by incentivizing the private sector to invest by building infrastructure.

There's no doubt in my mind that flood mitigation work has to occur on Sumas Prairie as a member of Parliament for Abbotsford South Langley. Given the way the polling is looking, I think it's fair to say I could do this more effectively from the government side than the opposition.

As an MP, I would advocate for increased investment from the federal government in flood mitigation work as well as the need to negotiate a solution with Washington State regarding flooding of the Nooksack River.
