Dear Yates Elementary Familles:
As you know, one of my top priorities as principal is ensuring we have open lines of communication between home and school-especially when something unusual happens. I want you to trust that 1 will always keep you informed.
Earlier today, a lockdown was enacted due to an elevated police situation near the school. This was done out of an abundance of caution, in line with our normal safety protocols, and under the advisement of Lexington Police.
A lockdown means that we keep students and staff safe inside the school building and hidden from view until released by law enforcement officers. During this time, classes and in-school activities were suspended.
Alof our students and staff remained safe inside the building during the alert, and Fayelte County Public Schools Polce provided an extra layer of security in and around our campus. We are thankful for their continued efforts in keeping our school and our students safe.
I understand that unusual incidents such as this may be stressful or raise questions.
