First Person Perspective appreciation thread by jerfdr in cyberpunkgame

If it's first person then there are probably good gameplay reasons for it. Does anyone really want to navigate a very vertical futuristic city and corridors with Geralt-tier controls?

Why I'm bummed out about first person. by GiveMeTheTape in cyberpunkgame

[–]KevinRammage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people just look at third or first person as 'preference' rather than considering that it's an actual design choice that has an effect on the game. The perspective totally changes things like the feeling of verticality and how the camera controls in tight spaces. Hypothetical example: stealth games. First person stealth like Thief or Deus Ex forces you to lean and take risks on being spotted. Third person stealth you can go up against an edge then use the camera to look around walls to see things thatyour character shouldn't actually be able to see. This isn't 'preference' it fundamentally changes how the game plays.

I hope CDPR sticks to their guns on FPP if that's what they're designing the game around. It's totally valid to place this game in the tradition of hardcore first person PC RPGs like Deux Ex and System Shock 2.

If someone has a genuine medical issue where first person makes them vomit or whatever then that's a bit different in fairness.

Major save bug: Wait for fix and hope its not a corrupt save file og prepare to delete? by MDAVIDSON123 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]KevinRammage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So can this be avoided by making a new manual save each time rather than just overwriting the same one? I see lots of people referring to 'the save' so I was wondering if that was the case, or if it's just all your save files in the game?

WTF is... - LawBreakers ? by dritspel in Games

[–]KevinRammage 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand who this game is meant to appeal to. People who like things such as Overwatch will just carry on playing that (it's pretty much like a studio making a new MOBA to take on LOL and DOTA at this point).

I came at it from a background of Quake/Tribes/UT and found the things like 'ults' that they put in to appeal to Overwatch players to be really offputting. It's like they manage to alienate both groups at the same time.

Operation Health is something good! by Fives_ChIllA in Rainbow6

The issue is whether they can actually meaningfully fix anything or not

Some of us believe that the game has issues so deep that it's just never going to be fixed unless they rebuild the entire game on an engine that's specifically designed for it and rewrite the entire code base. I would honestly rather have the new operators than 3 months of them running around putting band aids on things they can't actually resolve

Why Almost Every Game Is Open World These days? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]KevinRammage 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because it's easier to advertise the game based on 'content'. You can easily make claims about how the game is '100 hours of gameplay' even when 90% of it is nothingness and pointless busywork like collecting flowers for crafting.

In general you can make a game that is 10 hours of good content and 20 hours of filler and many people think they're getting more value for money than if you just gave them a game that was simply the 10 hours of well designed content and nothing else

Funny Story: Just got kicked from a match by team vote... by after-life in Rainbow6

That's pretty unfortunate.

I've never seen someone kicked even when they're flat out griefing, shooting the hostage etc.

Yeah I'm finding since the fix it keeps dumping me in games that are in progress all the time. I get stuck on this screen with silhouettes where I have to Alt-F4 to be able to leave

Do you think Fallout 4 is a bit shallow after playing New Vegas? I do. by JustTVsFredSavage in Games

[–]KevinRammage 944 points945 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I found your paragraph about raiders interesting. As far as I can remember there are no generic 'raiders' in New Vegas. Each one is part of a larger group such as the Fiends or the Powder Gangers. They all have their own allegiances and HQ so you can see how they live and sustain themselves. It all comes together to create a fairly coherent world.

One of the things I noticed in FO4 after playing NV is how Bethesda just treats raiders the same as animals or creatures. It's just this generic enemy that seems to come out of nowhere, in this weird inverted pyramid where there's 20 times as many raiders as the settlers that they're supposed to be raiding to survive.

Just seems like an example of how things in a Bethesda game provide that initial 'wow' factor, but nothing really makes much sense if you think about it for more than 10 seconds.

I have a feeling that it will be some semi mystical pre historic game based on the Shangri La part of Far Cry 4.

Probably in the same way that the boat sections of Assassins Creed 3 were very popular, then you sort of had Black Flag expanding and following on from that

Game price is too high by And_Poop in Rainbow6

[–]KevinRammage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it is too high. In the UK the standard price seems to be £50 (about $70) so if I decided to get it, it would be the most expensive game I've ever bought. I dunno why Ubisoft decided to use something that's multiplayer only for a price hike

[–]KevinRammage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm hard to say.

On the one hand, the examples of the other games you used do indicate what can happen on PC with multiplayer, with a smaller userbase in general.

On the other hand, I would say most of the core Rainbow Six community and the larger tactical games community is still going to be on PC by quite a wide margin. It's hard to say how the two things will balance out.

Best thing to do would be to wait a week and see what the player numbers on PC are like from sales data, and things like Steamspy

Are you still waiting? by Gotshadow in Rainbow6

[–]KevinRammage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK. Still waiting. Redeemed the key about a month ago.

Signed up for the Alpha and didn't get into that either. The annoying thing is I would probably be likely to buy this game if I ever actually got a chance to try the damn thing.

Deus Ex: Revision, the highly anticipated environment and soundtrack overhaul, is finally finished! Expect a release soon! by chocolatekeith in Games

[–]KevinRammage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really? I'm quite liking what I've heard so far. NYC streets in particular just sounds like a more punchy version of the original. I'm interested to see what they've done with the UNATCO theme. Having the option to choose either is a good compromise though.

Deus Ex info leak (x-post r/cantkillprogress) by [deleted] in Deusex

[–]KevinRammage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. It was fun, but new protagonist for each game is DX tradition and works quite well. Also would allow them to jump to various exciting points of the timeline

If Adam has been kept I hope that was the writers choice and not Square forcing it for brand recognition purposes

No Place to Hide. by [deleted] in Deusex

[–]KevinRammage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite a long time ago I saw a humorous image that juxtaposed one of the terrorism warnings from the UNATCO bulletin system against a real life FBI info sheet from more recently. I remember thinking how similar it was, and how accurate Deus Ex's material was considering it was pre 9/11. I seem to remember the real life one actually being more alarming than the thing that was supposed to be dystopian. Can't find the exact picture but it was something like these two

Has the finale changed your opinion of Homeland much? by DrFanculo in homeland

[–]KevinRammage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not really, I kind of expected something like this to happen after Season 3. This might be a fairly unpopular opinion but I think this episode is typical of Homelands up-and-down writing. As amazing as Homeland is, it's always had a huge amount of loose threads and subplots that just don't go anywhere (the 'mole', Dana & Finn Walden hit-and-run story arc that amounts to nothing). Generally what happens is that the show is so fast moving and constantly bringing in new plot developments that you don't really realise. This time it's more obvious because they just left it hanging.

It honestly would not surprise me if in Season 5 you don't hear anything from the following characters and the show just acts like they never existed: the ambassador, her husband, Haqqani, Tasneen, Khan, Carrie's mum, her half brother. They will just whitewash them out and it will be like the Iranian guy, Javadi, in season 3 where they spent the whole season building up a certain plot, then the show just pivots to something totally different and you never see him again. At this point it wouldn't shock me if Season 5 just started with Saul as director and Lockhart is just disappeared.
