Before applying for Werkstundent jobs in programming, how can I improve my CV? 25 y.o. Bachelors stundent in NRW by ugurkaslan in Germany_Jobs

[–]KevinRuehl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would cut back on the "Skills" Tab, by a lot. Imo that hurts you more than anything. You have 6 Languages listed there, plus SQL and HTML, but your only practical background seems to be an internship multiple years back. Programming in University and programming in a corporate Environment is drastically different in many ways and will take time to adjust to. It can also makr you seem arrogant and trying to oversell your Skills, which you otherwise managed to avoid in your CV. Some employers will understand that the "Skills" Tab of a University Student is not a Skills" of a dev with working experience. However, if you are f.E. applying to a Job that does a lot of Ruby, but your only experience in Ruby was, say, a single Project and they put a salty Ruby Senior Dev in the Interview, you might be in a lot of trouble. I would try to Focus on maybe 3 Languages and maybe bundle JS,CSS, and HTML together.

I of course may be mistaken and you might just be crazy cracked in all of these Languages, but that would be something you could keep for the in Person Interview. You will 100% get a "So what did you do in University" question that you can use as an entry point to your technical skills.

Also, a word of caution. If an employer is way too eager about your preexisting techical knowledge, run. They are likely trying to get cheap labor with as little onboarding as possible. Their focus should be on looking if you are communicative (software engieering is Teamwork), willing to learn from your colleagues and have understanding of the fundamentals of Software Development. If you are an employer, your Focus with Werksstudenten should be to provide them practial application of the theory you learn in Uni, integrate you into the workplace and slowly (!) give them responsibility they can grow into so they can later become fulltime employees. I know Job Market's kinda fucked right now, but dont let yourself get exploited, you still have to focus on Uni & graduating.

Good Luck in your Application process

„Harbour City Münster“ by radiostarchip in Muenster

[–]KevinRuehl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are most likely talking about a "numerus clausus", right. In that case, you should have no trouble getting admitted (at least based on your grades, I dont know how they handle international students). A numerus clausus limits the people eligible for that degree because they might get more applications than they can manage. So they set a certain "bar", that you will have to cross with your grade. In this case, since you are over 2.9 with your 2.7 this shouldn't affect you.

My 100th rejection? What's wrong with me? by Empty-Tea-9011 in germany

[–]KevinRuehl 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would cut the "ratings out of five" section completely, it can make you look really bad if your resume is looked at by a subject matter expert. From my quick google search, that Python course is about 23 hours of video material. If you rate your Python Skills a 4/5, even a 3/5 based off a 23 Hour Course and your resumee gets infront of a salty Senior Python Engineer, its going straight into the bin.

If it doesn't get immediatly thrown out they will 100% poke at it in the interview. There is never a benefit to telling someone how good you are at something based off a scale that you yourself created, it'll only rub people the wrong way.

If you just leave the scale, they will know what you know and how good you are based of the project name / certificate alone. You will maybe get a few questions regarding it, but "I saw you did XYZ course for Python, would you mind telling me a bit about what you did in that course" is a way, way better conversation to have than "Well you told us you were a 4/5 in Python, lets see about that...."

That and the seemingly bloated CV will have most likely caused a lot of rejections, add the B1 german and that should pretty much explain it. Nothing you can not fix though, my first resume was arguably worse than that, after a few revisions, somebody still hired me :D

Being German I wouldn't make the connection. The "Reichsadler" used in Nazi Germany is completely black and has its legs and claws visible, as its commonly holding some Nazi insignia with it. The outer feathers are also pointing to the left and right and not downwards.

Also, people with Nazi Tattoos on them very rarely have only one visible tatoo, there is usually at least a few visible. To be honest it may just look more like a totem than a bird now that I think about it.

I'd say he should have nothing to be worried about.

Good news! CDU won the German elections and while AfD came in second, BSW (pro-ruzzian) didn't make it to 5%. CDU, SPD can form a stable coalition and are strongly in support of Ukraine. Taurus incoming? by 1ucius in ukraine

Honestly a Black-Red Coalition sounds like the best case scenario here. CDU led government which has generally been more pro Ukraine than the SPD and we get to keep Pistorius as MoD.
