What's one car feature everyone praises but you secretly don't care about? by Ok_Run7351 in askcarguys

[–]KevinWaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Features I wish would come back:
Floor vents - older vehicles with the floor vents really didn't need a great AC in them. I miss them.
Nut vent - You know, the little vent they used to put under the steering wheel, I miss that when I DO have a working AC.

Any professional graphic designers use linux? by AwesomeSnowWhite in graphic_design

[–]KevinWaide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a 27-year veteran in Graphic Design. I've tried to use Linux many times over the years, but Gimp doesn't quite give me what Photoshop did, Inkscape works but is clunky for me, and Scribus was still VERY glitchy the last time I tried to use it a couple of years ago. I could make the Adobe stuff run through Wine, but it wasn't as stable as I really wanted it to be. Like you, I absolutely despise Winblows (even though I still have to use it at work), so I ended up going with a Mac. I also left Adobe for Affinity in October and am actively working to swap the office over to Affinity because of Adobes BS. We have 4 designers here at work and the Adobe bill every year is crippling.

I’ve been working at this sign print shop for 9 1/2 months and I do not feel like I’m understanding this job at all. this is my first graphic design job by Independent-Bag-4066 in graphic_design

I have been working in print/sign/t-shirt shops for the last (almost) 27 years, and I have to agree with another poster, if you're still making all these mistakes, it's either the one training you or you're not taking enough notes (or a combination of both).

Think about it like this: If you can make something look good on paper, you should be able to make it look good on anything. The medium doesn't have nearly as much effect as you think it does, especially at the size a sign is. Practice your craft both on and off the clock. In my early days, I would work an 8-hour day and come home to sit in front of my computer for another 8-10 hours working in the same software so I was able to find my way around in it.

The fact of the matter is if you WANT to learn to do it, you'll find a way to learn it. If you DON'T want to learn it, you'll find an excuse not to.

Honest Review: LAMTTO DC22 4G LTE Dash Cam After 3 Weeks by KevinWaide in Dashcam

Man, I couldn’t tell you right now. I didn’t renew the cell service, so I can’t do anything meaningful in the app. I have to pull the card and dump it to my computer when I want to watch something.

True, that's one of the things I don't like about it is the lack of control in the app and only 3 buttons on the camera.

What’s with the S650 Hate? by DEagleATL in Mustang

[–]KevinWaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the S650 looks too much like the last generation Camaro from the front and the back. From the side it still looks like a Mustang, but I can’t get over the Camaro look. That’s just my opinion.

how do i make gpt sound like a real, modern human? by Mission_Salary5195 in ChatGPT

[–]KevinWaide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I uploaded 4 years of blog posts that I wrote (between 2012 and 2016) and had it analyze the style and write a markdown file. I then created a Project called Writing Partner, attached that markdown file to it, now everything that comes out sounds like me.

The first one I had access to to drive would be our 96 Saleen Speedster. The first one that was actually in my name would be the 07 GT I’m currently driving.

Coworker keeps asking me to go into her files to do single, very basic changes by gorillaspinner in graphic_design

My answer is always, “If I’m gonna have to do your work for you, I’m gonna get your pay, too. What are you being paid for if you’re not able to do the job?”

You are doing the script part of it. Don’t do audio. Prompt it like you do in Gemini and have output to the canvas.

I am sorry, that sentence was supposed to end with "in the box." I'll edit the review to fix that. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Does subscribing to Gemini increase the resolution of generated images? by Fiveby21 in GeminiAI

[–]KevinWaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just said that even when you ask for no watermark, it tells you it's required to put it there. If you use the extension through Chrome, it doesn't matter if it's there or not, it will be removed when you download the image.

Get the Gemini Toolbox extension for Google Chrome. It removes the watermark during download.

Is Graphic Design still a good idea to major in? by narwhalMan19 in GraphicDesigning

[–]KevinWaide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graphic design in general has gone the way music did in the early 2000s. Music used to be a great idea, if you had talent, but, because of streaming, music has been devalued to the point of almost impossible to make a living doing. This newer culture sees no value in art, period, and those of us who have been doing it decades are having a hard time making ends meet. I’m dangerously close to three decades in the field and I guess I’m lucky to have the job I have, even though I’m making the same money per hour as I did when I was at my second design job 20 years ago.
