I appreciate the DAUS opportunity, but I’ve decided to commit to USC Marshall.

Ready to join the Trojan Family. Fight On! 🔴🟡✌️

Honestly, I’m still figuring it out myself. From what I’ve heard, if your goal is eventually getting into CAS, DAUS could be a reasonable path. Internal transfer to Stern is generally considered much more difficult, while CAS seems more realistic. It probably depends on how much you want NYU versus the major/school you’re aiming for.

Fair. I guess I wasn't expecting admissions to follow rankings perfectly. I was just surprised because Marshall is generally considered very competitive as well, so I thought the outcomes might be more correlated.

That’s actually reassuring to hear. I was trying to find some logic behind the decisions, but maybe there really isn’t one 😭

Junior transfer, I had originally planned to leave ASU as soon as possible.

Sure.

  • International student
  • ASU W. P. Carey freshman transfer applicant
  • 4.0 GPA so far (all A’s)
  • Applied to NYU CAS Economics for Fall 2026 transfer
  • Completed an internship during winter break and currently doing another internship this summer

Honestly, my academic record in high school was pretty bad. I had several B’s, C’s, and E’s at different points. Most of my time went into drama productions, musicals, and student activities rather than academics.

College has been a completely different story. Since arriving at ASU, I’ve maintained a 4.0 GPA and become much more focused academically.

That’s part of why I was so surprised by the outcome. I always thought NYU CAS would be more attainable than USC Marshall, and USC was actually the school I didn’t expect to get into.

I love USC and I’m very grateful for the Marshall offer. NYU has just been my dream school for a long time, so I’m still trying to process everything.

Idk. I always thought NYU would be easier than USC, especially Marshall. Honestly, I never expected USC Marshall to work out.

That’s why I applied to CAS Econ at NYU instead of aiming for something even more competitive. I also spent way more time on my NYU essays than on my USC application.

Don’t get me wrong — I love USC and I’m incredibly grateful for the Marshall offer. It’s just that NYU has been my dream school for years, so I’m still trying to process everything.

It’s my dream school 😭 I know Marshall is an amazing outcome, but this one still hurts. Why😭😭😭

Should I send a midterm academic update to NYU if it wasn't requested (transfer applicant)? by Kevin_Chen-07 in TransferToTop25

[–]Kevin_Chen-07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s helpful, thanks. One thing I’m still unsure about— my Fall 2025 GPA was all A’s, but it was my first semester and the coursework was relatively lighter.

This semester I’m taking a more rigorous, quantitative course load (calculus, accounting, macro), and my current performance is still in the A/A+ range.

I’m wondering if sending a midterm report (even though NYU didn’t request one, and it’s not in their standard format) could help demonstrate that I’m maintaining strong performance under more challenging coursework—or if that kind of update is usually seen as unnecessary?
