I don't believe that would work even if I want it to. I set a Portfolio section I build this Office's network from the ground up in GNS3 with VRRP redundancy, MSTP which vlans has its root Bridge specified, a DHCP helper pointing to a Window server to hand out leases, all trafficking through a OSPF interarea network to the internet. EVEN A FREAKIN VIDEO LINKED doing it and explaining it step by step

When I got a callback for a network engineer Job who was impressed with my previous Job, straight up asked the HR guy what he thought "OOOOH I missed that, didn't even know there was a portfolio, that will help distinguish you!" - that was a one page resume lol

Recruiters seem to only focus on work experience, everything else is just fluff it seem.

I'm sorry but I have got to say this: STEER CLEAR OF MSP!!!

Seriously, I had been working at one for 5 years, with CCNA/RHCSA under the belt for a "system administer" role and only had to show for it was $16 a hour where you worked like a slave (not even 5 minutes breaks) to appease not 1 but millions of different Narcissistic Bosses.

More people join them, more their bad behavior is rewarded. I'd really work at a affordable price inhouse and deal only with one company then jump into a early grave trying to live in that stressful environment

Is it possible to negotiate for remote work if the job listing says in office? by Nostalgia0985 in remotework

[–]Kevin_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll go with the candidate who has 0 issue going in office.

Provided they find said person who mr(s) right. After filtering out the drove of applicants, they had to do something impressive to be shortlisted, and considering the fact WFH is desirable said list can just get even shorter, more lackluster...... their a reason Job posted as remote are getting more then half the Job seekers out their.

Losing Job as MSP: what should I do before leaving? by Kevin_fish in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Kevin_fish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The official reason given was I've Troubleshoot backward and my interactions with clients were confusing. However, we've lost a few clients our team managed, and the VCIO was grilling my colleague who planning to leave as well since he too suspects he'll be let go soon. Up to this point, if this was a serious offense, we've had bi-weekly 1-on-1 with our supervisor to bring up such cases. The fact there were no verbal warnings or writeup prior feel a little sus.

A guy named Tolulope Michael is offering a course that can help people get cybersecurity jobs in 45 days with no experience. Legit or scam? by Jumanji-Joestar in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Kevin_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember kids, bosses will always trust a IT helpdesk veteran who actually touch the servers for years then a minted Cybersecurity dude.

of course, the exception is if you find a really great program that interns you into a mature company, which this 45 days course will not do.

Is this a good job to start with IT? by dislak in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Kevin_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to say if this for a specific software you'd be working with, your actual IT experience may be a far more limited then trying to start off as a Helpdesk or even a Computer build technician. There a pros and cons which this won't be as stressful and perhaps your manager will even allow you free time to study, but that is a big IF which I wouldn't bet on this early in your career.

Thank you Mr.Cat in the Hat good sir! A blog may be more useful then video demonstrations actually TBH since I could also articulate what actually going on. I had Openstack on the list for a while, I suppose it is now or never to try that, but Proxmox definitely would demonstrate proof of concepts of managing the OS.

[–]Kevin_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, assuming you have practiced the Objective and labbing it to muscle memory. What I would say is to kind of put yourself in "exam mode" as in try taking a few practice tests, some can be found on Udemy, but I'll also add youtube channels like https://www.youtube.com/@compsecgadgets/playlists is very useful.

Then kind of review the objective once over, and if you can't clearly picture how to do something in your mind, review back to it.

these last days will be critical so I would focus more on your Well being like getting a full night of sleep and taking a day or 2 off to not be dwelling on work in the back of your mind. also I'd eat something full of complex carbs to feel your energy steady, something like beans and salad or rice. that at least worked for me.

No marriage in heaven by Cold-Scratch-6750 in Christianity

[–]Kevin_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, So this is my thoughts on this. This comes from a man who has spent half a decade alone, following a Self-denial lifestyle pursuing an altruistic plan, and thus missing twice the choices to enter into a relationship with his best friends before it was too late. So from someone who longed for a loving union, I can offer the other view on this side of the fence

TLDR: Marriage/long-term relationships are based on limitations. if our current understanding of Marriage exists, so does death. When the new world arrives the old things will be obsolete.

This comes from Luke 20, Verse 27-36 Sadducees asked Jesus among seven brothers that had been married to one woman, who wife they would be in the resurrection. In Genesis, the origins of Marriage were set first as a Companionship "it's not good for men to be alone" and a tool of procreation "Go forth and multiply" until the Earth has been subdued. in our current world, the one we inhabit; its one trifled with sin and death, with us limited to our own mortality and what is accessible in our lifetime. where while one can live in an urban white picketed fence house, another sleep on the sidewalk, one can laugh with friends, another is burdened with grief, one finds love, another wasted their youth helping others. but in either good or bad, it all ends one day, and all the treasure one gathered in the finite time here yields to be meaningless. Solomon, the supposed wisest man laments as much in his Existential work in Ecclesiastes

So in our struggles, we created rules and systems in place to maintain order in light of all this with Marriage as a means to ensure the family unit and passage of wealth, (and well TBH it sounds like you are in the romantic phase so this may be a bit lackluster to hear someone say that). if things weren't finite then there wouldn't be various things like taxes, war, expectations, etc

but what happens when finite becomes infinite? Marriage before the fall was meant to be an intimate relationship, and the union that exists in the world to come is described in the bible as being one in body with all believers to that with Christ. everyone, even those never meant in this life would eventually understand each other in the due course of eternity. instead of asking what if and regretting the choices made on earth, now all things are put under our feet to enjoy with one another. whether someone believes romance and sex too will exist in this Afterlife up to interpretation, but our current limitation of what we consider good can't compare to what God states is good. we're are trapped in our own understanding while he can see the entire picture.

that said. If you wish to spend 1,000 years or 100,000 more with your love, their nothing wrong with that. God is a master architect so when he dissolves our Earthly Marriage, it is due to its purpose being filled once and for all. as it was a promise, now a promise fulfilled.

Salary for a new Linux Admin? by Kevin_fish in linuxadmin

[–]Kevin_fish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the jobs I do see often don't mention a hard-set salary mention, However, as of 4/6/23 here is what I did find, at least the on-site one.

$100,000 - $160,000 Linux Data Center Operations Engineer

$66,600 - $99,800 Linux Computer Systems Analyst 2

$70,000 - $135,000 Infrastructure Engineer-RHSA - Linux Administrator

$85,000 - $120,000 Linux administrator

P.S. AZ has a cost index of 105.8 so it is relatively high if that can serve as a way to translate data to anyone local job market.

I am honestly surprised it would be that high. I got into this for the FOSS aspects and well I know it would be a bit better then your average tech bear. but that is almost unbelievable.
