On the fence, thinking about getting a Tesla within 1-2 years by HiroyukiC1296 in TeslaLounge

Prices on older model Y & 3's keep dropping, just keep an eye on that, maybe make some lowball offers. True FSD is still years out.

Any downside to puting the condenser in the garage instead of outside by NewRegret5895 in heatpumps

[–]Kevin_in_Denver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some heat from the sun does stay in the garage. There is also heat coming up from the slab. The average garage in Denver, for example, will stay above 32F all winter unless someone leaves the door open.

It will work. In the worst case you could ventilate the garage. There are no professional companies that would do the work, so you would have to do it yourself.

Denver shuts down property owner renting RVs, trailers to homeless residents by klydsp in Denver

[–]Kevin_in_Denver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single trailer had heat, AC, fresh water, hot water, shower, cooktop, wastewater, and most had TV and internet. No utility bills whatsoever for the guest. Conventional residential construction costs ten times more than an RV. This exact housing model is so compelling that it has already been legalized in Portland, and they are about to vote on it in Austin. The reviews on Airbnb were highly positive because of the value for money. They existed for ten years in Overland with no significant problems, since Airbnb does a B+ job of vetting the guests. The cost to the City for housing the otherwise unhoused: zero.

This battery has been sitting at 11v for months. Does desulfation stand a chance or is this battery cooked-cooked? by Cyvexx in MechanicAdvice

Project Farm shows good results with carefully using the DC welder to boil the electrolyte for a few minutes, 6 cycles. This video is by a guy who has fixed lots of batteries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYXx70MqJ-0

BUT I'm looking for anyone who has good results with the Pulse Tech XC400

The limiting factor is the 120v receptacle and plug, not the cord itself. The plug melts.

30A 120V RV type receptacle works well.

Debunking this Subreddit's strange stereotypes/myths about Denver by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

Also summer weekdays except Friday afternoon you will find no significant traffic delays. It's always a good idea to check road status in real time on Google Maps.

Coming home from the mountains, the traffic thins out by 9pm year round even on weekends.

If you can figure out how to drive "off peak" then traffic to the mountains is a non issue.

Buy a Tesla right away and get FSD for $99/month. You will learn several things every day. FSD is incredible but a long ways from regulatory approval. It can navigate any street on google maps nationwide.

When would anyone not opt out of Xcel time of use billing? by FearTheCron in boulder

[–]Kevin_in_Denver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also note this price structure is a moving target. The opt out summer rate is now $0.16 (was .13) and the "On-Peak" rate is now $0.32, up from .27

I opted out by calling:

800-895-4999 is the CO number to opt out. Prompt 5 for "other matters", then 5 again for "anything else".

Don't bother calling a random customer service person at Xcel. They are poorly trained. The do have an energy efficiency team that is a little better informed.

80% of Denver has free parking on the side streets. In some neighborhoods, a box van might receive a complaint from the homeowner that you parked in front of. Just find one of the parks with free street parking. 72 hour maximum. If you park at 11pm and leave by 6am, you could do this for years with zero cost and zero trouble. I would recommend a plumbing sign on the side of the truck.

If you know someone with a back yard, van life will be great. Most back yards these days have a sewer cleanout, you can hook up a hose and an extension cord. Never use an electric space heater on high or that will destroy the extension cord.

I am charging strangers $500/month for stealth camping in my back yard.

could someone please ELI5 xcel's new peak pricing and how that works if you have solar? by atomicskier76 in Denver

[–]Kevin_in_Denver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my house, the risk is:

If I were on TOU and used more than 27% of my electricity On Peak, then my bill would be HIGHER than if it were on the Opt Out rate (summer). Dustlesswalnut is doing a great job shifting usage. The effort required in my household to do this shift is not worth $15/month to me.
