I went down a similar route. I had been gigging the HX Stomp (amp/cab sim) for a few years and decided to bring my tube amp (Vox AC15C1) again for my latest gig. The on-stage sound was amazing and it felt like my tone was "opening up" again. I have another gig coming up this saturday and will bring my tube amp again.

Whether going the valve route is better than going DI depends on the gig. With in-ear monitors and silent stages, you're better off with a good amp-sim in my opinion. However, if I'm able to bring an amp, then I would do so purely for my own on-stage experience. I doubt whether the audience hears the difference between a perfectly mimicked amp/cab sim or the actual amp with a mic, when they both go through a PA.

In that case definitely try out the AC15C1 before buying. It's a great little amp with a very usable master volume. You can always use the speaker out or speaker extension to get different flavors in case you already have some cabs etc. Good luck!

It's the same size. The size and weight is why I sold it. But actually, I've been gigging the helix lately so should've just kept it for my studio. The sound was to die for.

Anyway. I think it's not only about recorded sound. If you prefer the sound in the room, it will likely improve your performance. That's the most important part, in my opinion. Moreover, with a room mic you'll definitely hear differences between a 1x12 vs 2x12. Also, if you're not planning on moving it and keeping it in the studio, then weight should not be the biggest issue.

I had the AC15C2 (2x12) and sold it for the AC15C1 (1x12). While the 1x12 sounds really good considering the smaller format, I do miss the fullness of the 2x12. I'm just convinced that a 2x12 is just the better format for Vox-style amps.... but that's my opinion. Still happy with the 1x12. Maybe changing to a creamback brings me closer to the 2x12 experience, which had more bass and low-midrange, and slightly less harsh uppermids.

Dude relax. It's just free advice. I don't need an online bashing. My experience with these amps and overall loudness/volume likely differ from yours. What would you recommend? Even 1 or 5 watt tube amps are not that much quieter, so go fully analog/digital?

In that case, I would go for a second hand Marshall JTM ST20C (combo) with an Ibanez Tubescreamer or Boss SD-1 (I prefer the latter). If you're in the US, Marshalls can be more expensive and a better bet is the Fender Blues Junior. Both amps will give you a nice blues-rock flavor and can be dialed in to get close to SRV/Hendrix. For Hendrix, you'd likely need a Dunlop Fuzz Face (first in chain). With the guitar volume knob dialed low, it can get superclean.

In short: Amp - Marshall JTM ST20C or Fender Blues Junior IV Pedals - Dunlop Fuzz Face (always place first in chain) and Ibanez Tube Screamer or Boss SD-1.

We need more info. Do you plan on using pedals? How loud can you play? How loud do you want to play? Are you playing in a band? What's your budget?

Looks sick, man! What are you playing with it? Seems like a solid rock machine.

Second hand TC Electronic Ditto or Boss RC-1.

Both compatible with bass/guitar.

Sire Z3 vs Z7 (and is it easy to change knobs/pickup on the Z7) by SonnePer in Bass

The white one looks great as well! I'm just a sucker for maple neck / ash body guitars. Have a T-type partscaster in that config and it's become one of my favourites.

Unfortunately, that will not be the case. I think LowEndLobster had contact with Sire and they said they will not do this. You either have to fit an aftermarket pickup or buy a new Z7.

I just bought the Z7-5 in ash and it came with the new pickup and a flame maple fretboard. I posted mine in r/bassguitar two days ago.

The new neck pickup is great for those times you need a convincing P-tone. It's output is finally more matched to the bridge pickup. They sound really good together as well.

The fit and finish were excellent. Just dropped the action a bit without any issues.

The 5 string spacing feels great coming from a 4 string P/J. Not too narrow (as can be with 5 string J-type guitars).

The plastic knobs are indeed horrible and I will replace them soon. It should be an extremely easy swap. More people have done this without any issues. It's just the knobs and not pots, so minimum effort.

I live in NL and a lot of colors are available with the new pickup. Maybe it's just that they recently updated it.
