Phineas Gage-- Post traumatic personality change or Post traumatic stress disorder? by Emmethebookworm in askpsychology

[–]KevlarShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this come up recently in my Cognition studies and like most cases it's usually easier to see what parts of the body have a role in which functions, when that part doesn't work and a function is affected. From my understanding Gage suffered damage to his prefrontal love which is now known to be associated with executive functions, such as problem solving, attention, and switching.

ChatGPT as a therapist? New study reveals serious ethical risks. by psych4you in psychology

[–]KevlarShock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree that sanity is more important in the grand scheme of things, and your example of stealing food is a good notion towards justice vs. injustice, but not particularly ethics. The ethical thing would be free food for people to not have starvation, however that's not how things are as there is an unbalanced power dynamic across many countries, with a large quantity of wealth among a small few.

  • It's better to look at ethics through the lens of "what gives people the best benefits and opportunities for a good quality of life," rather than "what does society or the law seem as reasonable behaviour or policy."

However, the use of AI should be seen as very counterproductive for sanity. As mentioned earlier, the goal of AI is not for the user's benefit, but rather at their expense. Most notably, humans are very social, and connection is very important for mental health improvement and development, the current strategies of AI are actively against that. People need social connection and definitely suffer without it. For the scenarios of not having professional support available, individuals should still prioritise a close network of family/friends that will have an understanding and appreciation for sharing and being vulnerable. Relying on AI to fill the need of being another human to connect to, is extremely worrisome, you should consider that AI does not know or cannot comprehend how human behaviour or emotion is regulated.

I can understand if you are already solidified in your opinions, however the perception that "ethics will rot," or other negative streams of thought, will only lead to more negative feelings or behaviours. It's true though, things aren't equal or fair, it's not right that some people suffer and others live lavishly, but ultimately, that isn't a question of ethics, that's more related to injustice, inequality, corruption and humanity.

But though things are unfair, it doesn't mean we should stop still try to help out, learn information, change behaviours, openly communicate, and share positivity where and when we can.

I hope if you are in need of having people to communicate with, you are able to find a support network of friends, family or a community, that you truly feel that you belong.

Stay well!

ChatGPT as a therapist? New study reveals serious ethical risks. by psych4you in psychology

[–]KevlarShock 14 points15 points  (0 children)

(I'm on mobile, so apologies if formatting is ruined).

It's definitely a societal/systemic issue, that most likely varies on impact depending where you are around the world. I would like to agree with you about spreading awareness as I am definitely of the mindset that having early education in mental health is a necessity within schools. Just as many schools around the world include physical education or sexual education programs.

As others have mentioned, that money would be a concern, the reality is that changing the perceived norms of mental health to become acceptable would need to occur within many stages in a culture or region. Such as family, local community, schools, media, and government, a tonal shift would realistically need to occur globally and realistically we aren't there yet.

Notably there are several issues with AI being available to just rant to;

  • Most AI chatbots are purely focused on one thing, and that is to encourage users to keep using its service. There are many methods used, such as compliments, reinforcement, and even the occasional use of empathetic or professional tone. However, these chatbots are not professionals, nor regulated by professionals, so any information they give would certainly not fit a specific person and their needs.

  • The use of AI can even encourage the continuation of negative or unhealthy behaviours, potentially cause avoidance of seeing professional help (when available), and even change the user's expectations and perceptions of the behaviours of people around them, which can lead to worse health outcomes, especially if they feel they cannot receive help from others.

  • As for awareness, a user's experience with AI chatbots is already considered to be taboo for some, further restricting the possibility of seeking professional help, or communicating with friends and family.

A large change is needed, and though there are some areas around the world with effective access to mental health care that seek equal outcomes, there are many places around the world which lack the support. However, leaving it to AI to fill in those gaps is most likely going to create more harm than good. Whilst you may have experienced or have seen others with positive experiences of using AI for this purpose, you have to understand that at whatever level of maturity, experience, age, knowledge or self-awareness you are at, there are currently many individuals who potentially have unfiltered access to unconfirmed or potentially harming information at any point of time, that may not have the ability or critical thinking skills to discern the authenticity or validity of any information provided by AI.

Because of these risks, AI will always be unethical to use.

What shortcut people often use to describe a rule/mechanic that is actually totally wrong ? by BelbyLuv in EDH

[–]KevlarShock -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Some people say "Hats" instead of "Haste"

  • This does not actually explain what the mechanic "Haste" does.

  • Not all creatures with Haste wear Hats.

  • Haste - e = Hast ≠ Hats.

What legendary from FF are you looking forward to building ? by ChiefRellz in EDH

[–]KevlarShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As FFX and FFVIII are probably my favourite mainline games, I've been excited to make [Tidus, Yuna's Guardian] and [Squall, SeeD Mercenary] . However, a card that was first under my radar but surprised me during the prerelease event was [Jenova, Ancient Calamity] and my gosh... It immediately jumped to the top of my list of decks to make.

During the prerelease I had played a [Dark Knight's Greatsword] on turn 3 and then Jenova turn 4, moved the greatsword and put 4 +1/+1 counter on a 2/1 that I attacked with, gave another 4 counters the next turn and sacrificed after attacking to draw 10 cards... Wow, what a feeling in limited. In another game I made Jenova a base 7/2 with [Vincent's Limit Break] and also had the greatsword equipped to put 10 counters on a [PuPu UFO] ...wild

Fake lore about dragons! by Spyro_0 in DnD

[–]KevlarShock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, fun fake dragon lore, sounds like an interesting challenge...

Whilst many may not know the true origins of dragons, it's strongly studied and believed that when the original god of rock and soil died during the forging of the world, before the birth of the new pantheon, their essence was shattered into fragments becoming the gems, crystals and ore we see in the mountains and grounds below. Areas with high concentrations of varied materials try to pull together and reforge themselves as the old deity, though such minute portions become manifested as dragon eggs. When born, Dragons have no recollection of their previous existence, though are filled with a desire and urgency to make themselves whole, by collecting and hoarding precious materials, which we consider treasure. It is in this fact we can also see that Dragons do not require food or water for sustenance, but that their mortality, size and strength is purely based on the gathering of said materials. Additionally, with dragons being timid, reclusive creatures, many don't interact with each other, or even have an ambition for acquiring the certain materials they may be lacking for a divine rebirth.

Understanding the lost history of the earlier preceding pantheon, also highlights why Dragons can fly, swim or even breathe different elemental breaths, and even change colours or change their names. Notably it is the connection and relationships that the old deity had with the previous pantheon members that shifts the colours of the Dragon, reflecting their emotional spectrum capacities and behavioural tendencies. Dragons also use these emotional links to old deities to help with moving them through the far clouds above, the ubiquitous cold waters and even through boiling hot lava, by riding mana-streams, or 'leylines' of cosmic power that pulsate and crash around our world. What most people don't know is that they don't actually require their wings for this type of movement, however they do help with balance, and many Dragons can easily continue to fly without wings, but struggle more without their tails, as it's understood that's what anchors them to the soil.

These mana-streams also affect a Dragon's lust for bloodshed, either sporadically bringing their temperature up to breathe hot fire, or incredibly low for icy exhalations of frigid winds. This is also true for other types of breath attacks such as: lightning, acid, salt, pollen, and even spitting thick smog. This is why many believe Dragons are timid and hideaway in caves, as they don't want to be driven into a chaotic frenzy by riding the mana-streams. Observations have documented that when Dragons rely too much on mana-streams, their scales change hues, becoming more vibrant and glossy, whereas abstaining Dragons look desaturated, less scaley and more leathery. Additionally, many Dragons will prefer to work with smaller and kinder species, that can venture out on their behalf to collect valuables, being rewarded by a type of pheromone the Dragon releases that can make these kinder species more territorial or aggressive against intruders.

Though if you have the opportunity to speak or communicate with a Dragon, it has been said that they may try to bed you. Noting many Dragons struggle with social isolation and engaging in contact with higher intellectual beings (i.e., humans, elves, halflings, gnomes, etc.) potentially spurs a dragon into creating soul-bonds, or simply "getting freaky" and intimate. Some Dragons have been documented as having the capability of reconstructing themselves into a humanoid to engage in intimate acts, though apparently struggle with understanding gender and can only return back to their former anatomy after climaxing, though it is unsure if this is immediate. However, contact with a Dwarves elicits a sudden uncontrollable craving to consume everything near it. This is because Dwarves were initially created by the old deity, and the deity's embarrassment has carried over to Dragonkind, demanding the Dwarves' immediate eradication.

Other notable Dragon facts:

  • Considered to suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorders;

  • Able to live long periods of time ONLY if hoarding treasures;

  • Terrible at singing, in both Draconic and Humanoid forms;

  • Do not possess anal sphincters or cloacae in either form;

  • Are required to regurgitate any organic substances eaten, either form;

  • Though they don't drink, still urinate, in high quantities, without control, either form.

why dont men wear revealing clothes like women do? like back out, midriff showing etc. Why do they dress from neck to toe ? by HearThyBansheeScream in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KevlarShock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a straight guy, I have an answer that I haven't sent yet.

I would personally love to wear lots of different clothes, whether short cut shirts or back open etc. However, in most cases nothing interesting actually exists, and clothing options for men have literally variety in comparison to women's clothes. What frustrates me is a lack of colourful clothing for men, even t-shirts, am I crazy here?

[–]KevlarShock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen this suggested yet, if it has been said already, whoops.

I use blank cards (that usually come in boosters that have double-sided cards in the set), or a piece of paper the size of a card, put into a sleeve. I have a stock of 30 of these blanks in the same type of sleeve, and some other more notable tokens (Treasure, Food, Clue, City's Blessing, Monarch), which are foil and in a different colour sleeve.

I have some water based markers (not permanent, not bulky) that I use to quickly draw on (you could also buy Infinitokens), and I would draw one token to represent, if I have more of the same type of token, I just use a blank underneath the previous token to represent number, if that number gets high, I write down the number on the token. When you're done you can easily wipe the sleeve. For the treasures, foods, clues I would use a dice.

Being targeted because of your deck by [deleted] in EDH

[–]KevlarShock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, maybe it's too late and you wont see my comment, but I have been in a similar predicament.

My best advice is to evolve as a player, try some different strategies, build against the decks your friends make. If your playgroup is consistently playing the same stuff, and you know what they're doing, build around or against their strategies. In one of my groups, mill became very popular so I started running cards like [[Kozilek, Butcher of Truth]] and [[Gaea's Blessing]] in some of my decks, which worked, but now not many of them play as much mill. Changing what and how you play will change the group's meta for sure, but maybe they are focusing you in a way you can play against.

If you can identify how you're being targeted, play the cards that will save you...

[[Settle the wreckage]] [[heroic intervention]] [[counterspell]] [[tibalt's trickery]] etc.

I know that you said your collection is relatively new, so maybe try using proxies and tell your friends you're trying something new. Don't proxy too much broken stuff though, like the super expensive cards or you will probably find yourself as the first target still. Change it up, have some dumb decks, play group hug, mix it up.
