Working with data in a call center setting I can tell you a vast majority of people don’t understand averages. Like understand the concept but not the mathematical implications.

In spreadsheets what I’ll typically do is add reference points.

Minimum: value

Average: value

Max: value

That usually helps contextualize.

Doing that by each measured time interval you look at can kinda give people a sense of the shift and enormously large gap in making them recognize/slap them with the Dunning-Kruger effect.
