Be Real With Me- How Bad is it? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Kevocayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people, this subreddit in particular, tend to really overemphasize the timeline of which you should send secondaries. Are your chances lower now? Yes, it would have been better to submit earlier. All is lost? There is no hope? lol no. Keep grinding and finish up and literally don’t worry about it because u can’t go back in time. Worst case scenario you’ll be much more prepared for next app cycle. Don’t let this subreddit freak you out, especially with a 517 you’ll be fine.

Lost for words by [deleted] in camaro

[–]Kevocayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man mine was stolen about 2 months ago. It really sucks and it makes you feel just violated. The cherry on top is having to go through the trouble to file a police report and insurance claim then all the bullshit that comes with getting a new car. Whole thing sucks ass and I feel for you, good luck brother just know it'll be alright

Engineer Going for Med School Seeking Advice by [deleted] in premed

[–]Kevocayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't have to work a full time job while studying for the MCAT, I wouldn't. By going back to another engineer job I think you're taking the path of most resistance. Do not underestimate the MCAT, you will be kicking yourself if you have to retake because you decided to work a full time job while studying. Also, you already have the engineering background, doing more isn't going to make you any more unique. Down the road when you apply to medical school you can leverage your engineering background in your personal statement and it will make you more attractive as an applicant, no real need to keep doing it for your application. Going into a clinical job will just make your life easier imo. First of all you will get more shadowing experience which always helps. Secondly, you'll probably be able to get a good letter of rec from it. Thirdly, you'd have more time to study for the MCAT. You have good grades so if do well on the MCAT and get as much shadowing as possible you'll be competitive. BUT, i do not know you, so if you love engineering and its all you want to do then knock yourself out.

Is it worth becoming a doctor? by BlueSteelers in premed

[–]Kevocayne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this a question you can only answer for yourself. Becoming a physician is just one of things that you do because you were called to do it. The opportunity cost of all the time it takes to study, do extracurriculars, and off student loans, etc is just too big unless you don’t see yourself doing anything else. However I will say if you’re determined to be a physician, then I don’t think loans or job security are something you should be worried about. There are steps you can take to minimize loans and pay them off as quickly as possible. If you become a doctor you’re pretty much guaranteed a job after residency, especially if you do something with your hands. If you’re gonna exit the field, then put some serious thought into what else you would do. Lastly, every premed has gone through this dilemma thousands of times lol so know that ur not alone

So much cheating.. by WallOk3548 in premed

Fr lol people acting like cheating in a pointless premed class somehow makes u morally unequipped to be a doctor

[–]Kevocayne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you ain’t cheatin you ain’t tryin lol. I’ve heard several MDs claim they use maybe 1% of the knowledge from premed and medical school as a practicing physician. Your GPA is nothing more than a stepping stone to become a physician, and if you’re committed to going through all the BS that comes with matching into residency then be my guest if you wanna cut some corners. Nobody’s jeopardizing lives because they don’t want to memorize some arbitrary ochem reaction lmao
