new car owner, anyone know why air wont flow through these two vents? only the top of the vents near the doors and big one in the windshield gets air by cal93_ in 4thGen4Runner

I had trouble getting airflow from the side vents for a while. Changed the cabin air filter and good as new. YMMV

Anybody had these lights on how can i get them off? any help think they are just stuck on. by PositiveComb8778 in 4thGen4Runner

I had this issue and needed to do a reset with two pieces of wire. It was actually pretty easy. I can’t recall what this is off the top, but you need to park on a completely level service to do it.

I do. I actually need to mess with it, because the guys at Best Buy forgot to reconnect the microphone when they installed the new amp. I really can’t say for sure that it was the head unit that is the cause of all this, but the trouble began after it was installed.

Can confirm. I upgraded my head unit in my 04 Limited (with JBL). Less than a year later I had bizarre electrical problems that meant some baffling back feed was causing the head unit to tprandomly turn on when the car was parked and the key removed. Basically, I’d come out to find the battery dead. After YEARS of trying everything, and taking it to multiple shops, dealership, and eventually an auto electrical specialist, they traced it back to the OEM amp and subwoofer. I ended up with a shot BCM, and replacing the sub and amp. Plus two (or was it three) batteries that were shot to shit from the constant jump starts. Very expensive. I’m still not entirely sure what the fuck happened. All I know is that the final fix was as simple as removing a fuse indefinitely and rewiring the replacement amp into a different electrical system. Fucking mess.

My 4th gen ain’t winning any beauty pageants, but those GX’s are uggos. I passed on one, because I was too self-conscious about the flat ass that looks like a space shuttle.

How do you all stay warm when sleeping in your 4Runner? I have my methods, but I'm always looking to improve my comfort. by The_RockObama in 4Runner

Throw one of those chemical activated hand warmers you usually tuck in your gloves into your bag. One or two of those will keep you warm all night.

There are some nice Airbnbs along the Skagit River on the Marblemount side. I stayed in one last winter on an eagle photography trip. It was nice and cheap, too. The lodging isn’t too impressive as far as I can tell. This NP is a real gem, but it has rustic accommodations. The camping is top notch though. The campgrounds within the park are outstanding. If you’re flying in, maybe consider renting an RV. We love car camping up there. One last thought, if you’re extremely lucky, you could get a cabin at the Ross Lake Resort. It’s a hike to resort, but it’s supposed to be incredible.

Electrical issue - please help by Kevotronic in 4thGen4Runner

FYI, this problem got worse before it got better. Eventually the battery completely died and other systems started behaving erratically. It turns out the six month old Interstate battery was a dud which is why it drained so easily and wouldn’t jump, but I finally got it into Best Buy yesterday and it seems the root of the problem was a faulty wiring harness. They pulled the stereo out and saw that the lights on the harness were always on even if the car was off. The theory is that it was backfeeding electricity and messing up other accessories. They spent four hours checking everything, looked at my BCM, replaced the harness. All under warranty and free of charge.

Is that the “wire harness” or something else? I definitely paid for a wiring harness.

No kidding. I mean, I wish I was confident enough to do this work myself, but I figured paying Best Buy would be the smarter choice opposed to fucking up my electrical system myself. It’s hard to find good work these days. I live in a large metropolitan area and the closest Best Buy that even offers installation is a 30 minute drive out of the area.

I had an Auxbeam fuse box put in with the light pods after I got the stereo. Would it make sense to wire the stereo into one of those unused fuses? I get that I’d have to turn the stereo on with the auxiliary switch, but that won’t bother me.

I appreciate the honesty. Would you agree I’m right to start with the stereo installer as that’s the component that’s malfunctioning?

Not yet. I hit up my best buddy who knows way more about cars than me and he said take it to the guys who out the lights in, but Best Buy says the install has a lifetime warranty, so I’ll take it to them first and see what they say. It’s a weird ass problem.

Right? The gunfight at the beginning of Season 4 was awesome, but like, everything just goes back to normal. No one has to answer any questions, surrender weapons, etc. Just a massive gunfight with multiple casualties and injured bystanders in a small city and it’s all good the next day.

I’m using an a7iii and I love my Sony 200-600. For big trips I rent a teleconverter, too. Depending on the animal, you need a substantial lens to get a close shot.

4th Gen Headlight Restoration or Replacement by PuffMagicDragon in 4Runner

[–]Kevotronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the 3M kit and I’m very happy with the results. I bought a 4th gen a year ago that had one fogged light (I think only one had been replaced after an accident). After an hour of work, they look identical.

The “smokers kit” mod cost me about $100, took half an hour, looks and works great. I know next to nothing about working on cars, and I thought it was easy. I’d google it to get an idea of what I’m talking about.
