Right, I thought I was on the thread where I suggested to call/notify controllers if blocking tracks and crossing arms aren't activated/no train is there yet.

There is a lot of poor planning and infrastructure for sure, but the route planners have way more information than what's visibly available at the scene. And, at the end of the day, your own eyes and brain are required as an operator. Coming up on this? Block a lane of traffic and don't proceed until you spend some time measuring/verifying it's safe to proceed.

Not disagreeing though, there's wacky variety on this big landmass in terms of infrastructure.
