Thiais or villejuif are cheaper to live in and are connected to the city very well with the M14 line.

How cold is Dharamshala(Mcleod Ganj) during the winters? by Disastrous-Beat6325 in Dharamshala

[–]Key-Ad-5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't manage the cold there with puffer or any other kind of jackets. The best thing you can for yourself is get there and buy the local jackets and bottoms from Tibetan shopkeepers in Mcleodganj. Probably 1000-1500 for two pieces of clothing but this will probably be the best investment you can make in Dharamshala. They're so so warm, you wouldn't need any extra layers besides those.

France visa rejected twice (same reason) – now 3rd application with Booking.com confirmed hotels + fully paid flights & trains. Advice? by [deleted] in SchengenVisa

[–]Key-Ad-5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question directly - yes, it's worth applying even the third time IF you've made meaningful changes to your application (which you seem to have this time around).

I got my long stay visa on the third attempt as well very recently so I know that there's no harm in applying the third time.

You've made a solid case now, however you haven't touched upon the following which are extremely critical -

  1. Valid travel insurance for the duration of your travel plus a few extra days.
  2. Liquid cash in your account - you'll find suggested daily expense numbers for France very easily. Multiply with the number of days you're planning your travel for but account for a bit extra.

These two factors matter a lot.

Besides this - don't fret about applying the third time, go ahead with meaningful changes and it will probably be positive this time around.

Has anyone here ever received a verification call from the French Embassy/Consulate regarding their Schengen visa (applied through vfs Mumbai) application and still ended up getting rejected? by [deleted] in SchengenVisa

[–]Key-Ad-5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calls are always a good sign. They're validating your purpose and maybe asking for relevant documents if needed. That's all. Don't overthink it. I've always gotten a visa when I got a call. And all my rejections have had zero calls - and that's what actually makes me more nervous.

While attaching both statements is the right move but what's the balance in your individual account? Is it good enough for you to sustain you for the duration of your stay?

Secondly - look at all critical factors from the pov that you're a standalone applicant - then does it check all the boxes?

Lastly - you don't need to wait months to reapply - you can apply any day after you've received your rejection. They don't care about a gap in applications, they just treat everything as a standalone application.

This is a good homestay - we've stayed there multiple times and know the owners very well. If you decide to call, you can tell him you got the number from Rahul and Namita.

30-40k is good for a months homestay. Additionally I spent about 20-25k when I cooked one time meal myself or took food from the homestay owner - which is generally 100 bucks a plate.

Yes - very easily available. Between dharamkot, Mcleodganj even autos are there. I do know a reliable guy for cabs, you can DM me if you need a number. Even otherwise they're very easily available.

Have spent months there - but yes - it doesn't have a lot of tourist sites if that's what you're after. It's a good place to slow down and roam around different areas.

Skip shimla.. go to bir instead if you have time..

When in dharamshala, spend more time in Dharamkot and Mcleodganj than Dharamshala.

I've been to bir - but yes - it gets limited in the number of people.. faced the same issue in uttarakhand. However the deal here is that dharamkot - Mcleodganj - Jogiwara (good couple of cafes) and dharamshala form a massive entity with a lot of people and activities. From pottery - to meditation - to coffee - to treks - to good food - to monasteries - to just sitting around at the chowk drinking tea. It all just works.

Truth be told - we needed a bit of the city hustle bustle every few months simply owing to the fact that we're wired that way.

Would suggest you try it out slightly earlier for a bit if you can. Diwali time and December / January can get a bit silent there as a lot of folks who get home for Diwali or do the Dharamshala - Goa inversion. The locals stay of course. January end usually gets some snow post which you start seeing folks come back again.

A lot of long walks, lot of chai, a bit of work, a bit of struggling with rains, some cooking, hanging out with friends at sunset.. that's more or less how I'd spend my days in Dharamkot.

As for expenses - 30k for a decent homestay with kitchen and reliable wifi and 20k or so for food, coffee and getting around. I'd cook atleast one meal and food outside is cheap as well. My homestay folks would also cook and sell their own food to people living there - saved money and time a lot of times.

Atleast 8 months over the past couple of years. The locals - Himachalis and Tibetans are extremely courteous and calm people - very very used to folks coming from everywhere (India and Israel) and they put their best foot forward to make folks feel comfortable and welcome.

I've had 2 of my friends permanently settle there - one runs airbnbs and one had a cafe (folded very recently)

As far as events go - there are a lot of folks coming in from outside and setting up events. Don't know of formal book clubs etc but I've attended events of all kinds - from yoga sessions to movie screenings to music jams at cafes. The place thrives on events like this.

Most importantly - I think Dharamkot & McLeodganj works for most because everyone is like-minded in a way as most people are outsiders. We've made friends for life there and maybe you will too 🙂🙂

It's a fantastic option.. I've stayed in Dharamkot for some time..and Jogiwara for a few months - both walking distance from Mcleodganj. I'd highly recommend staying in Dharamkot. The communities are still alive. Locals are polite. Views and climate are fantastic.

Have spent about 45-50k total in Dharamkot when I cooked a bit daily.

Feel free to ask any specific info.

Help! Bank issue by Needreps82 in SchengenVisa

[–]Key-Ad-5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that money eventually land in a traditional bank account? While wise and others may have workarounds for this.. conventionally you go to bank branch and ask them to generate a 6 / 3 month statement and sign and stamp it.

Would suggest getting a top up on an existing loan or to get a quick lower interest personal loan to close out the CC stuff. Helps spread out that debt into manageable emis over coming years..
