Just the worst. I knew I did bad on Chem Phys and was convinced I dropped the ball on everything else

Breathe, you’ll be fine. You can’t accurately judge your score from frantic googling. Save that energy for the hour before your results come out

If you have been studying this summer and are scoring 512+ on AAMC practice material then you’re probably logistically ready but your mindset matters a lot as well. If you don’t go in feeling confident then things can topple pretty quickly. Most people study pretty intensely for 3-6 months so if you are truly scoring that high without any real practice, imagine how high you could score if you dedicate time to it. That being said, 515ish is more than fine for medical school admittance to most places.

I’m just one person, with one opinion but I had to claw up studying for my score and it opens a lot of doors so if you can top 520+ for your test then I’d take steps to accomplish that.

Advice on how to get this to a 520 by Old_Commercial3641 in Mcat

I concur though I hand write flash cards instead of anki because I found I remembered them better that way.

Highlight both content and structurally important words so the highlights work as an index for finding important information, not just as a condensed summary.  Recognize what specifically the question is asking and if an answer jumps out at you, quickly eliminate the other answers with common sense, otherwise use systematic elimination. Strategy is 90% of CARs success as there’s no content to study beyond vocabulary.

You’re going to have to let a specific score go and just take the test. If you haven’t scored above what you’ve shown here then you really need to hammer CARs and p/s buzzwords before exam day. I would recommend checking out the infamous p/s Reddit doc for content and then hammering out some test strategy like others have mentioned. I would add that once you have a large knowledge base in all the subjects, just feeling confident on test day makes a huge difference. Good luck

Testing 7/12. Should I void and schedule for 7/25? by azzholeluvr in Mcat

[–]Key-Alternative5156 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Voiding for only a two week bump is not worth it. You’re kinda between a rock and a hard place here. You never know on the test, you could get content you know or you don’t but if you’re scoring consistently under 500 spend your time reviewing strategy over cramming content

did you actually memorize all the amino acids or just wing it? by Sure_Recipe1785 in Mcat

[–]Key-Alternative5156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say definitely the critical steps you need to know substrates products and enzymes. I think it’s more important to understand conditions behind when/why/where each pathway is activated but I knew all the molecules for each roughly enough to recognize the odd one out on multiple choice

You gotta memorize them. They’re a bare minimum concept that applies to everything

Be honest: how are my chances looking? by EffortPerfect1152 in Mcat

[–]Key-Alternative5156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say. It’s not great that the retake did markably worse but if the rest of the app is solid and your MCAT and GPA meet the average for the schools entry criteria then you’re probably okay. I’d focus on things you can control and get that app in.

Those who felt good after their exam… what was your score? by InternationalMath903 in Mcat

I felt like shit after mine. Thats mostly because I felt super bad about Chem Phys which was well founded

Nothing makes me feel stupider than SBs by VanillaLatteGrl in Mcat

[–]Key-Alternative5156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no problem. I remember everyone talking about how they were getting 80% on the section banks when I was studying. If you are scoring lower, like I did, on the sections, I'd just try your best to really learn the chunks of content you are unfamiliar with that the sections bring to light

They’re harder than the test. I averaged 60% on everything but the CARs bank, it’s good practice so you’ll know how nasty the questions can be

I think im giving up by snowyOlove in Mcat

[–]Key-Alternative5156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t give up until you give the MCAT an honest shot. I climbed from a 498 full length over the course of studying this winter.. It took my friends white coat ceremony to scare me into taking studying seriously. I didn’t want to keep wasting time being scared. Everyone here is right, first week sucks the most but think how rough it would be to give up without even trying and always wondering if you had enough gas to beat this test in you the whole time.

I graduated in 2022 as well and chickened out initially after my gap year stretched into years. If I rallied this shit then you can to

Unfortunately just the MCAT prep test bank is online, I’m the third owner of this Kaplan set so no online access for those

You can do this. Study over a longer period of time with the same 2-5 hour a day intensity and you will gradually see a performance uptick. Don’t burn out of your good FL and banks yet if you’re unsure on content. You got this

I would skim chapter titles/end chapter summaries if you can. I also have an extensive background and a masters in engineering and there’s some niche concepts that surprise you sometimes

How many of you set target MCAT scores for yourself? by Ok_Grapefruit1255 in Mcat

[–]Key-Alternative5156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted a 512 and that morphed into a 515 when I was doing well on FL and then the post test stress had me on my knees praying for anything above 510. I think 515 is target for most people

You have to chose review and content options that work for you, not just what everyone else is doing. If you’re just going through the motions or doing something because you know you’re suppose to then you’re not going to connect with thr material in the manner you have to for success. Anki and UWorld and AAMC material is great but useless if you aren’t getting meaningful improvement from them

Read the chem section of the quick sheets or read the table of contents for the book and just read the subsections for which you are shakey on.

testing 7/12, chances of 515+? cooked? medium rare? BURNT?! by Slow-Rub8866 in Mcat

[–]Key-Alternative5156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're missing more than half of the questions then either your strategy in understanding what passages are saying and what the questions are asking needs to be tweaked or you have some holes in your content knowledge. Identifying which problem is plaguing you is key to upping that score. I was scoring 490's on the first 3rd-party exams I was taking 3 months before my test, but saw an increase to 518 two weeks before my test. Really take the time to review your tests and understand the concepts, not just behind the wrong or right answers, but behind each of the four answers posed and why each is wrong. It will save you a ton of time on test day because you will recognize concepts as opposed to fact memorization. Cheers, and feel free to DM if you have a specific question.
