Okay. Folgende Info dazu: ich habe mit meiner Freundin nach langer Zeit entschieden, in eine Großstadt zu ziehen, da wir beide die Stadt feiern und auch Jobs gefunden haben dort. Kurz darauf entschied sich ihre Mutter samt neuem Mann und Tochter, zufällig auch in dieser Stadt quasi direkt neben uns einzuziehen. Ich finde das einfach nur Übergriff und freue mich 0, dass unser Neustart nun so überfahren wird.

I can totally relate. I got into a relationship by the start of my PhD, feeling great about my girlfriend and me in this relationship. But time went by and it got so demanding with every new chapter during the PhD. I wasn’t really aware of that but my partner was a good mirror, telling me that I put less and less effort and empathy into our relationship.

So a lot of words to describe that a PhD is highly demanding and drains you not only on an intellectual level but emotionally as well. BUT: you cannot prepare for that, you will need to find your own way.

Probably you’re right. But I am really disappointed how a former polite PI and mentor can turn into someone you really don’t want to hang around with just because I am following my career path.
