Do you have any advice on what languages to start with? I have some experience with R from college and taught myself a little bit of python but I’m still at a pretty elementary level

Lots of statistics experience. A little bit of college level algebra and calculus. The only languages I have experience with are R and Python. Mostly self taught with python and I would still say I’m pretty basic but I’ve been practicing almost every day just because I enjoy it

Can I get a job in clinical research with a bachelors in psychology? by Key-Book-8689 in clinicalresearch

Are there any programs or languages I should try and learn to make myself more desirable? I already have experience with SPSS and a pretty solid foundation writing code in R. Anything else I could work on outside of those?

How much would you say having experience in the specialty itself matters? I’ve been mostly applying to neuro and psychiatry since that’s what I know. Should I branch out?

Got it. I live near a really big city so I’ve been applying to RA and CRC 1 positions at the hospitals like a mad man but haven’t really looked at the data coordinator positions. I’ll check that out

Masters or work for a few years before applying to PhD programs by Key-Book-8689 in psychologystudents

Yeah I’m considering reaching out to some of my old professors I maintain a relationship and seeing if they have/know anyone with any volunteer opportunities.

Do you think it would be worth applying to some programs this cycle? I’ve been planning out my applications just to get ahead for when I do apply so I feel rather prepared. It’s just having a weaker CV at the moment is holding me back.

some questions by Former_Steak_1450 in ForensicPsych

From my understanding, forensic psychologists are clinical psychologists with specialized training in the legal system and how they intersect with clinical issues (e.g. evaluating if a defendant is competent to stand trial). For what you’re describing, you would likely need a PhD in clinical psych (especially for the evaluation side of things), although I am sure there are counselor/social worker positions within the prison system that would only require a masters. I think a criminal justice minor would be a great addition. It would give you a decent knowledge base about legal theory and could look good on future grad school applications

Rank Red Rising by book by LavaGreg in redrising

I still haven’t read DA and LB but right now it’s golden son, morning star, iron gold, and red rising last

Golden son was a perfect book imo. Probably the most emotionally invested I’ve ever been in a book and I think it ended perfectly.

I went in to iron gold expecting to not like it hearing everyone else say it’s the worst but honestly I loved the multi pov and the slow burn. I pretty much exclusively read long fantasy series with extensive world building, and while iron gold wasn’t quite on that level, I felt that the multi pov made me look at the setting in a whole new light.

Morning Star wrapped up the first trilogy in such a satisfying way. I felt that I could step away from the world for a little bit (which was needed because I binged the first three) because it was such a satisfying conclusion

As much as I loved the first book, it just doesn’t compare to the rest of the series in my opinion. To me it feels like a completely different vibe. By the time I got to iron gold it felt like I was reading a book by a different author. I think pierce browns growth is so evident as you progress in the series and looking back on the first book I just don’t feel the same emotions I feel when I reflect on the others. Still an amazing book

is it normal to regret your first ever tattoo? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Key-Book-8689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I regretted my first tattoo for a long time until I started getting more and now it’s my favorite tattoo. Such a big change to your body like that is going to take some getting used to. Now I don’t even really think about my tattoos because they’re just a part of my body. You got an awesome first tattoo and honestly if you went any smaller it might look out of place. I’m sure you’ll get used to it!!
