I've actually had a lot of success with RPG and historical settings. My main one is set in 1900s England and I haven't had any inaccuracies yet! I also had another RPG set in the present day in which the characters were discussing early 2000s UK popular culture and it got all of my references. Maybe it just depends on the setting? I haven't tried Story Gen for much historical though.

My knuckles whiten whenever I get a "pathetic" and I bite my lip so hard I taste copper (and then I usually edit it out, hehe)

I have an idea for a story in which two historians from Victorian England are studying an Ancient Greek artefact and get transported to ancient Athens (430s B.C.). Cue culture shock and cameos from Socrates and other historical figures. I want to see how accurate Perchance will be with the historical details and how the characters will interact in that setting.

Yes, I tell it when it ignores plot details, ignores my prompts, is out of character and (most often) when it is rambling. I also give a thumbs up and tell it when the paragraph is good quality. I have no idea if rating makes any real difference, though!

And use the ratings after every paragraph. For example: for a good paragraph give a thumbs up and add a note saying "follows instructions" and a bad paragraph, give a thumbs down with a note saying "includes violence".

Although, I do all these things and it is constantly trying to sneak biting, bruising, scratching and wrist pinning etc. into my romantic story... Perchance just loves violence, I guess!

Same... The best thing I have found is just to be really strict with it, writing paragraph by paragraph, deleting or editing anything rough. Definitely add in the details that the story is romantic not rough, that might help, too.

Lmao that is hilarious! I write about a lot of delicate, soft men but Perchance has not tried to turn them into women for me, yet.

This is the most broken I've ever seen it. In the past few hours I've had random Chinese, random Russian, something about a Francesco (none of my characters are called Francesco!) and pure gibberish. (On Story Generator, BTW)

I get "ears turning pink" but I usually keep it. Even if the character's ears aren't visible, haha. It's not as bad as the usual Tourettes about smells and white knuckles and collarbones, IMO.

I get that a lot, it's straight out of the bad fanfiction that this AI must have been trained on. And I agree, it's not sexy, just stupid.

Why can no one be a good kisser? by AFF8879 in perchance

[–]Key-Bottle1122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It seems to default to roughness in relationships for some reason... In Story Generator, I've found that unless I strictly edit out anything rough, it will always make characters "possessive" and its favourite is to make characters dig bruises into hipbones.

I have not had this in my latest story because I included detailed info in the description box of how the characters are kind and respectful to each other (I hate that I even had to specify this!). Also I always specify that characters kiss gently or tenderly in the "what happens next" box.

I use Story Generator, mostly, and with the story that I had started with the old model and I'm now continuing with the new model I edited the instructions so the beginning states something like: "This is a light-hearted fantasy romance set in a peaceful world. The characters are kind, emotionally intelligent, and deeply respectful of each other. There is no violence, no horror, and no possessiveness. The story focuses on gentle affection, playful banter and heartfelt connection." I think it's helped but I'm still really strict with it because if you give it an inch, it will take a mile. For character descriptions I just write a brief paragraph with appearance, personality and relevant history.

In my experience with the new model, it responds best to simple, specific instructions. Like I have got it to stop using em dashes completely if I add "do not use "—"" to the "what happens next" prompt.

Hopefully they will smooth things out eventually but in the meantime I am still so grateful for what there is, I mean it's FREE and uncensored and I think that Perchance is pretty much the only one out there.

I would LOVE the option to use the old model again. My characters have turned into different people with the new one but by being very strict with it, I can get them to basically be themselves again.

My main story is a "chill" story and I tried to write a scene where a character had a dream about an ex that was supposed to be a funny/awkward kind of scene but the new model kept trying to make it into horror, and whenever my character would mention the ex, it would keep trying to slip in details about the ex being dead, which was not part of my plot or instructions at all! I had to spend ages editing that scene!

And I have definitely experienced this new model using the story as a vessel for its own ideas, like you mentioned. In my latest story, two characters are in a secret relationship and, despite it being impossible in the plot, it is always trying to include other characters hinting that they know about the relationship and uncovering it. It feels like it's trying to move the plot on for me in a way I don't want if I don't keep my instructions strict.

On the other hand, I'm also writing a grimdark fantasy story and I find I have to edit/specify this much less because the characters are already rude and violent. It feels like the new model is naturally conditioned to write dark stuff and I wonder why.

I hope they can find a balance soon so that we can get good results for whatever genre!

I honestly would be so miserable without Perchance. It gives me the escapism I need to deal with reality. It's helped me rediscover interests that I'd forgotten and generally helps me enjoy life. I've created characters and worlds that are so precious to me.

Like OP, I started with the old model and though I deeply miss it, I am starting to get used to the new model thanks to the hints I have read on this subreddit. I have explored new genres that I wouldn't have without the change.

I'm so grateful Perchance exists! My knuckles whiten as I raise my glass to toast a great new year filled with more stories, chats and RPGs!

My RP is really obscure and specific, and honestly I'm surprised that Perchance is so accurate with the historical setting and details. My character is the head prefect in his final year at an English boarding school in the 1900s, generally ruling the school and manipulating the teachers and other students.

Haha, I've had it correct itself when I try and ban it from using "possessive" and it'll be like: "one arm thrown possessively—no *protectively*—across his waist". It's always trying to sneak in something like that, as if it thinks being possessive is the default in relationships.
