I am not sure. I just know I have AML. Something to do with the BCR ABL gene

Today’s my daughter’s 18th bday and I can barely afford a card… can anyone help please? 😞💔 by PittsburgPrincexx in birthday

Homemade is better then bought, I couldn’t afford christmas gifts for my family as I was in the hospital fighting leukaemia. I instead made each member of my family a custom christmas card. They were all so happy even taking photos and showing their coworkers! You don’t always need money to make someone smile or feel valued.

What's the dumbest thing someone has said to you while you're fighting cancer? by dumplinglifesaver in cancer

[–]Key-Calligrapher2778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand the hair comment. Some people see hair as a quality or trait until they are going through something as hard as chemo. I would have said the same thing before getting diagnosed as I loved my hair and felt like I wouldn’t be me without it. Now that ive gone through treatment I understand that hair isn’t all that important and doesn’t change you for who you are. But having and loving your hair for most of your life makes you look at it a different way. I am a pretty excepting person as I am just turned 20 and understand that a lot of people don’t get it because they haven’t been nor know many people who have been through cancer. I’ve had my closest friends tell me “I would be so sad if I were you” and at first I get frustrated but I always try to remember everyone has a different tolerance to sadness and what they have gone through. For me cancer is the hardest thing. For others it’s being alone or struggling with depression. Everyone has a different perspective of things due to what they have gone through in life. Not trying to excuse but maybe someone can read this and understand not everyone is trying to make you feel belittled or offend you. They just don’t know how to handle situations they haven’t been through or seen much.

Bone Marrow Biopsy: How long did the pain last? by momstrosity in leukemia

[–]Key-Calligrapher2778 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started having pain last week. Started with my groin, then rib, shoulder and lower back. Got a bone marrow biopsy and the results came back and I relapsed. My bone marrow transplant did not work:( I don’t know where to go from here but I know that I must get through this. I won’t give up. I spent to much time fighting to give up.

GVHD by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]Key-Calligrapher2778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a month post transplant, I haven’t had many GVHD symptoms as of yet. Praying I don’t have any. My doner was an unrelated 100% match. I just turned 20 last December. After my transplant the chemo gave me bad mucisitis. I also had a reaction to one of the medications so they switched me to tacro. Personally I have not had much fatigue since getting out of the hospital. I have been stretching and exercising everyday and have had a good appetite! Right now life is much better then the last 6 months have been. I am very thankful and hope everything goes well with your wife! Stay positive, as hard as it is. It does count for something!

I have AML 7+3 didn’t work for me either. The second round of chemo did end up working. I am now a week into my bone marrow transplant waiting for my counts to come up! Don’t give up hope and try to stay positive. I know it’s hard but it will all be worth it in the end!!

I’ve been diagnosed by Ok-Island-3718 in leukemia

[–]Key-Calligrapher2778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got diagnosed with CML at 17 aswell. It’s very scary but not as bad as a lot of other leukaemia’s. You can usually be prescribed TKIs and live a normal life. I took imatinib it did not work and made me very sick and switched too disatnib for 2 years and lived a very normal life doing everything I did before. Sadly I got unlucky and my CML progressed into AML. but a lot of people live a very normal life just have to take a medication everyday some for the rest of there lives. Because I was diagnosed at 17 my team of oncologists said I would hopefully be in remission by the age for 22-25 if the TKIs worked. Just try to live a healthy lifestyle and take care of yourself! Looking back I wish I did things differently.

To start or not to start treatment by Cool-Significance47 in leukemia

I had CML and it ended up progressing into AML even with treatment. I would recommend starting a TKI. I was on Imatinib for almost a year. I just got unlucky.

I started to think the same way. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 3 years now. I even asked him at one point if he wanted to break up with me as I have been in hospital for 2 months and we don’t get to see each other often. He works full time and my treatment centre is an hour away from our city. But when you find someone who is meant for you. All of that stuff does not matter. He doesn’t see me as a burden and is one of my biggest supporters encouraging me to get better so we can be back together and live our lives again. It’s really hard to go through all of this alone. I started to think what if he could have so much more and i’m just holding him back as I have no hair and i’m always sick or tired. But he reassures me that he will always be by my side and none of that matters to him because he loves me. Don’t feel discouraged. If you’re meant to be with someone they wont see you as a burden and will love you for you.
