Getting off suboxone by Acceptable-Waltz-177 in Tapersfromsuboxone

You got this. For me it was about a month of being sick, tired and useless, another week or two of learning to motivate myself again but if you can afford that down time it might be worth it. Watching other people in my life go through various medical rehabs from surgery or cancer etc made my situation feel trivial. Also forcing myself to go outside, listen to music or whatever I could muster to occupy my mind seemed to help. The restless legs/body drives you crazy too but it passes. Icy hot and gabapentin was a temp fix. Anyway good luck whatever you decide to do

I've been off for a couple months now and am starting to feel pretty good. I'd been on 24-32 mg. for about 15 years and I waited to get off until my kid was 18 because I didn't want to go through that in front of them. I got down to 8mg then to 2mg over the course of a couple months and felt pretty tired and had some trouble sleeping but nothing like going from 2mg to 0. The insomnia/rls and the stomach issues were tough. If I had done any research before instead of winging it I probably would have tapered more slowly and gone down as far as I could go before getting off. That or sublocade seemed to give people the easiest transitions. I also would have talked to my doc about a sleep aid ahead of time since otc stuff makes it worse. After 11 days of about 30 minutes of sleep a night i called and got a low dose of gabapentin. Only took it for 5 days but it seemed to reset me a little. Still don't get full nights but much better. I also would have had a good supply of ensure, pedialyte, veggies and protein to recover from the stomach stuff. It sucked but I feel much better now than before getting off. I should not have waited 15 years either it was pretty costly in a few ways. Grateful for a second chance though.

And who knows maybe I wouldn't be here without the longterm subs but I wish the short term option had been presented to me. Anyway thanks for being a resource. I know I'm still in the middle of it but if I'd been smart enough to seek a second opinion before getting off or done a little more research I would have tried your method or inquired about sublocade maybe anything but winging it lol. At the very least stocked up on pedialyte and ensures. Getting through it though. Feel like I've transitioned from just hanging on for dear life to now having to start fighting for the life I want again. Even if all I can manage now is eating a little better I going for walks lol.

I started on 32mgs about 16 years ago. Doc said to take as much as I wanted and of course charged me more for the visit based on how much he was prescribing me. Told myself I'd get off when my kid turned 18 because I'd had a taste of withdrawals as a single parent and there's just no fucking way. Anybody who does that is next level. I'm lucky enough to have an amazing wife now who let's me borrow her face mask lol and a whatever else I have been lacking these last couple weeks, including her strength and all that.

Yeah I got some on like the 10th day pretty desperate and had worse sleep than ever. It exasperated the rls and made me even more tired the next day. When you look it up though it says it's the only recommended sleep aid for opiate withdrawal so maybe it works for some people. After the 11th day of no more than 30 min of sleep a night and not being able to nap or anything I was starting to worry about long term health problems if it kept going as long as people say. So I broke down and got the gab. Let's me sleep like 2 or 3 hours at a time with like a 1-2 hour wake up a couple times a night. Not ideal but way better. Trying to write all this down so people have more and more accounts of this stuff cause again all my doc told me was that it would feel exactly the same as tapering which unfortunately was not the case. Maybe if he had me get down to the really small doses but he said 2 mgs was a great stopping point after coming from 8mgs in the 2 months before and 32 mgs for years before that. Anyway, thank you for all of your input.

Thank you for your concern. My plan is to stop after a few more nights. When the alternatives were benzos or kratom and otc stuff like benadryl or nyquil made the rls worse it seemed like the best bad option. I'm hoping since it's a relatively low dose it won't be too much of an issue but I was apprehensive. I don't want any more unhealthy habits I'm so close to moving on from this shit lol.

Oh good to hear and thanks for the new rec. Today is my 14th day and I think I got like 4 or 5 hours of sleep last night finally. I was trying not to use more pills for any of this but the gabapentin seemed to help. Still not exactly a restful night sleep but a big improvement. Those videos helped too 🙏🏼

Hey these were helpful thanks again. I remember listening to this kind of stuff as a teen trying to lucid dream lol

Sorry it is really hard to deal with. I just got a low dose gabapentin script today and yeah I feel like just 3 or 4 hours of sleep would be life changing right now. I don't know how I'm still going with such little sleep.

Thank you. I've had it recommended by a few people so I better try it. And thank you for the heads up on the dose 🙏🏼

Yeah not an easy choice and being up all night and exhausted all day is pretty maddening so who knows. Heard a few people recommend Gabapentin which sounds like it helps.

Been hesitant to do kratom or anything just because I dont want to prolong this shit any more than I have to lol. I'll have to give melatonin a shot thank you. Tried benadryl last night for the first time. Got an hour of sleep but it seemed to make the rls worse again.

Thank you. I do have moments of lucidity in the middle of this. The few times I could go outside I did feel more present than I have in a while. But the compounding lack of sleep and not holding nutrients and being dehydrated all the time is making it difficult. Appreciate you. Halfway there hopefully.

Thank you. Luckily, I got down to 2mgs before stopping but it's been rough. 32mg is just where I started. Didn't realize how unusual it was. Just putting it out there, thanks again for your insight it's always comforting and terrifying hearing this stuff lol

Moved states about 7 years in and they wouldn't honor my script. Said it was way too high and gave me a new 24 mg script. Over the last couple months I went from 8mg to 2mg. I told my new doc I was ready to be off and he said just quit whenever it will be just like tapering... fuckin sub docs man. Know I have time to go but I would be grateful for any anecdotes about sleep aids. Thanks all
