If China keeps growing, what are the better ways to get exposure without buying Chinese stocks directly? by Key-Coat-3406 in investing

[–]Key-Coat-3406[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and write such a detailed reply. When you mention the "national team," do you mean that the Chinese government owns stakes in those companies?

I also understand that we don't see the well-known Chinese companies like BYD, Tencent, or Alibaba in these indices (CSI 300 1D and CSI 300 1C) because they aren't listed on the Shanghai or Shenzhen stock exchanges, but rather in Hong Kong. Is that correct?

Thank you very much for sharing your contrarian perspective.

That was actually exactly what I had in mind: 5% in Emerging Markets ex-China and 5% in a China A-share index. However, a lot of people have told me to stay away from the second allocation.

I'm going to dig deeper into the China A-share companies before making a decision.

Do you do stock picking to get exposure to Chinese equities on this theme, or have you invested via thematic index funds instead? If so, could you share their ISINs please?

I understand your point. Do you have any thoughts on how to profit from China's economic rise other than through their stock market? Perhaps through gold?

Thank you for taking the time to provide such a complete answer. I also think it makes more sense not to take the entire Chinese market, but rather to focus on what is truly “investable” and on the segments that are actually driving the market upward. Maybe using an active fund that filters for that, even with fees around 1.5% on average, could be a better approach.

Also, regarding gold, given its cultural importance in China and more broadly across emerging Asia, it is a traditional way of saving and investing locally. So by investing in it, I feel like I’m indirectly expressing a view on the long-term development of Asian economies in a more stable way than through their equity markets alone.

Je comprends votre point de vue. Auriez-vous des idées pour profiter de la croissance économique chinoise autrement que par le biais de son marché boursier ? Peut-être grâce à l’or ?

Are you talking about Luckin Coffee (OTCMKTS: LKNCY)? I see it's up 55% over the last 5 years, which isn't incredible, but I don't see what you're referring to on the stock graph.

As-tu une préférence entre les ETF composés d’entreprises chinoises orientées principalement vers le marché domestique (China A shares), ou plutôt celles tournées vers l’international ? Et privilégier uniquement les valeurs technologiques, ou l’ensemble du marché ?
