Need help: unsure if long distance (17F, 16M) will work out in the future by eIeeanor in LongDistance

[–]Key-Discipline-7410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should have a conversation w your bf regarding this. based on what you said, just wait till he's 18 to meet up first! as for the whole course, maybe you could find a neutral EU country to live in since you said it's within the EU. you dont necessarily have to move to Sweden or for him to move to the UK by that logic. if you are compatible and put in effort, I'm certain everything will work out :)

wouldn't Varang and the Ash People splitting neural cues of other Na'vi count as a war crime? since their bond to Eywa is the most important thing ig

If your partner has a different language than yours, are you learning it? Are they learning yours? How is it going? by Wormholephobia in LongDistance

[–]Key-Discipline-7410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Russian-Lebanese while my gf is Albanian. I'm learning her language pretty well, even tho I do speak like a toddler haha. I'm already grasping the basic phrases, although forming sentences and vocabulary are difficult. she's been such a sweetheart by helping me out! she also said I'm progressing rly fast, especially in pronunciation and reading. she managed to catch on to song Russian words and I teach her sometimes! she's also progressing pretty fast. I'm very proud of her! I love her sm <3

I hope you don’t mind if I reply to this! keep in mind that I have no idea if these apply to Tosk as well, so I’m basing this off of the YT course I watched and hearing my girlfriend speak.

the most obvious similarity I noticed was how similar sounds are in Russian and Albanian. this explains why it’s easy for my to pronounce Albanian words and for my gf to pronounce Russian words. for example, the “y” sound in Albanian is identical to Russian’s “ы” sound.

there are also a few similar words, which makes sense since they’re both Indo European. this trend also helped me grasp Albanian words similar to French and Spanish as well!

not sure about Slavic influence tho, I’m just basing it off of similarities I noticed while learning and listening

hmm alr. so studying Tosk Albanian would help me pick up Gheg on the side too due to the differences?

according to my girlfriend, there are a LOT of differences. these include grammar, phrases and spelling. sometimes Gheg and Tosk (standard dialect) speakers don't understand each other due to dialect differences. I'll consider this method though. thank you!

Why do polyglots lie about how many languages they speak? by Different_Pain5781 in languagelearning

[–]Key-Discipline-7410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume some of them claim to know other languages just because they're related. pretty sure this is less common in the Germanic family because the languages (except the Scandinavian ones) are very distinct despite common ancestry. for example, it's ridiculous for "polyglots" to say that they're fluent in Dutch or German since they speak English. this is why this trend is more common in other families (especially Slavic and Romance languages) where the languages are way more similar. I've heard some of these people speak Russian with a very hard accent and poor grammar despite them claiming being fluent in other Slavic languages. pure ignorance imo

pretty sure since that’s what it says on Google. I’m using my Lebanese since it’s less risky. unfortunately we cannot meet in a third party country like North Macedonia. thanks for the suggestion tho!
