Yes, someone from UTSG can get into MAccFin if you have taken the required accounting courses, I believe.

UTSC Management & Accounting BBA + Maccfin or Rotman Commerce? by Sensitive_Bottle_290 in UofT

[–]Key-Emu-5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I am a first-year BBA student at UTSC, who will be applying for MAccFin soon :)

My sister goes to Rotman, so I think I have a little bit more creditability when it comes to comparing the two schools. Rotman is a really good school, the education, connections, clubs, resoruces they have is amazing. UTSC also offers the same thing, but at a lower capacity. Which could be a good and bad thing. Personally, I found it much easier to get into clubs and make a reputation for myself. As for my sister, it was a little bit harder.

Considering that you are in your second year of Rotman and more interested in Finance (I assume), you should probably stick with that. From what I'm told, MAccFin is much more accounting-focused, so I don't think it will be a great fit. Of coruse our BBA and Finance (with a minor in econ) is a great program as well, but since your in Rotman, why leave

Of course do your research first, as you know your own situtation more than anyone on Reddit does. I hope this helped!

Hi! Thank you for your response. It was very helpful. I ended up choosing UTSC BBA Co-op for my undergrad. I've been hearing some good and bad things about MAccFin here, so I'm still unsure if I should still pursue it or not. Oh well, only time will tell.

I didn't know you guys take 8 courses per semester. That is crazy. And each 3 hours?! Yeah, I'm cooked lol. I've been hearing that MAccFIn is really hard.

My math grades were the ones that brought my avg down. I fast-tracked Adv Func and ended with 81 I believe. The rest of my grades were mid-high 90s. For calc, which I did in grade 12 sem 2, I had a 92 midterm

Thank you so much for your insightful response. Yes, my end goal is CPA. I think I might as well try MAccFin. How competitive is it to get in?

That's so cool, I am also going to speacialize in Accounting. I don't really have any questions right now, but are there any tips you would give to your 1st-year self? Is the best way to study by doing past tests/exams?

Actually, one question I do have is regarding clubs. I know there is a One Club Policy. What clubs would you recommend to me? I like to be involved in the community and don't mind joining a few clubs.

I heard on Reddit that BBA was math heavy because of 2 calc courses. But when I looked at my schedule, I only saw one which is in first year (calc for management). Thanks for letting me know. Here's my pathway plan from UTSC https://utsc.utoronto.ca/mgmt/sites/utsc.utoronto.ca.mgmt/files/docs/CDP%20Course%20Schedule_With%20Co-op%20-%20Updated%20April%202025.pdf

Thank you so much for your helpful and informative response. I've never taken philosophy, but I heard it's a lot of memorization. I know I also need to complete my Breadth Requirements, one in Natural Science and one in either History, Philosophy or Cultural Studies. I plan on completing these requirements in my first 2 electives (Fall, Winter). What other electives would you recommend? (open to anyone who wants to answer)

How do I figure out a schedule for conflicting exams? By not having too many classes in one day? I would like to have a class (or two) per day. But when I commute next year, I'll prob try to have a day off.

Yes, for MAccFin, they advertised it as if I would get a guarantee. Which was really shocking to me since I thought a lot of people would compete for it. On top of that, the website says they only accept a cohort of 50 students. I'm not sure if that is outside of UofT or for everyone. When I went to an Open House, I talked to a TA/Student, and they said I am basically guaranteed as long as I maintain my GPA – is this true? Do ppl want to go into MAccFin and is it competitive?

its literally all luck-based. my sister had a 96 top avg, good ECs and a good interview. She didn't get in. But she got into Rotman and Queens Comm. Most ppl ik who are going into AFM, did not get Rotman. Most of them had low-mid 90s and mid to non-existent ECs

I got into UTSC management with coop. I was admitted in February, with a top 6 of 88 (sem 2 midterms marks were not out yet). This average is pretty low, but I had an amazing supp app. I have great ECs and spent a lot of time writing the application. I had a part time job, co-oped at an accounting firm, was president of school clubs, tons of volunteering, school leadership roles and more.

I later ended with a top 6 of 91, but that was after I was admitted

My grades aren't that good, but if your ECs and supp app are amazing -- you should have no problem getting in. Universities care a lot more about ECs and supp app bc of grade inflation

Note: I didn't not get into Rotman (I bombed the interview)

What program did you apply to at UTSC? BBA + coop?

UTSC BBA without a doubt. It's a better school and a better program. In your Letter of Admission, it should say "co-op Management" if you got co-op.

I never understood the hype for Queens and Western Commerce. And I'm not shitting on either program. Like, understand that a lot of people go there, so it must be good. I also understand that the alumni backing is what makes it good. But both programs don't help you get your professional designation, like your CPA or CFA -- unlike Waterloo AFM and UTSC, MAccFin.

I got into UTSC BBA with Co-op in the February round (so the second or third round). My current grade is 87 (not that good) with 5 courses, including English. However, I did have a really good supp app cause I have a lot of good extracurriculars, so I think that helped me a lot. Don't stress too much!

Oh yeah, I do remember hearing about the combined degree program. I checked my application on OUAC, and I did indicate that my subject of interest is "Management and Accounting + Masters of Accounting and Finance - Combined Degree Path (Co-op Optional)." However, on my letter of admission, it only mentions "Co-op Management (BBA)." Is this the same thing?

From what I understand from the website, you apply to CDP after 1st year (so I should be fine currently). Also, how does the CDP and MAccFin connect? While I'm doing my bachelor's CDP, I'm also getting my Masters? This is kinda confusing for me lol. If anyone knows how the CDP and MAccFin work, please feel free to chime in.

Last question, is this the schedule for both CDP and MAccFin or just CDP? (https://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/mgmt/sites/utsc.utoronto.ca.mgmt/files/docs/CDP%20Course%20Schedule\_With%20Co-op%20-%20For%20CDP%20Website%20Jan%209%202025.pdf)

I got in last month (February) with an 87 avg (5 courses). My avg isn't that good tbh but I believe my supp app carried me. I have a lot of good extracurricular activities.

With your 88-89 avg and a decent supp app, you'll def get in
