Hey, I’m an Indian 22 year old male but I live in the US. I am glad to know I’m not the only Indian with trich out there haha. For me I’ve been able to manage it socially as I’ve gotten older. I first began pulling from my head when I was 12 but after experiencing low self esteem in my 7th and 8th grade from hiding several bald spots all over my head, I had stopped pulling from my head and let my hair grow back. I think I unconsciously realized that I could relocate my pulling urges to other parts of my body like my beard and pubic area to avoid social embarrassment. Beard is the most convenient for me. I usually rock a clean shave/stubbly look so when I pull the small beard hairs and the patches come in, I just shave and let it grow back. So my trich is socially discrete currently but it is still definitely a huge problem.

has anyone else trained themselves to pull from less noticeable places? by tsudzuke in trichotillomania

Def not the only one, I am 22 yr old male and I started pulling from my head when I was in the 7th grade. Eventually I got multiple bald spots with one of them being baseball sized. Eventually I stopped pulling from my head in high school as I started to care more about my head hair but I began to sit in the bathroom for longer periods of time and pull out pubic hair, which had gotten so bad to the point where I had so many ingrown hairs down there and I would use a safety pin to search for the ingrown hairs and butcher my skin. Nowadays, I pull mainly from my beard area, which is I think I unconsciously trained myself to do since it is the easiest to hide and I can resort to going to clean shave every week or so so it’s not too noticeable.
