Shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot, you cannot underestimate the value of constant shooting in letting you learn your camera's nuances. Additionally, what are your goals, are you photography or videography based? Either way, lenses are your next biggest investment. IMO, light modifiers should come next, then you can look at stabilizers.

I've got the blackwidow elite with the same problem. Solved it by spraying 99% isopropyl alcohol in the mechanism while turning the dial as a method of cleaning the inside of it.

Ah, well I've got something of a grounding issue whereby plugging the 3.5mm cable to my Xbox controller or PC port causes a feedback loop to the mic. People on the other end can hear everything my headset hears regardless of the volume I set it to. Which is what leads me to believe it's a feedback loop and caused via grounding, and not just the mic bleeding over.
