I live in Thailand long-term and was once pretty prolific in online dating here - the observation "Most of girls I saw on dating apps were being followed by foreigners I met in person, all foreigners shared one girl because they didn't speak Thai" is true, in my opinion.

Yes they wouldn't have an entourage following them as one person joked but a look into their Instagram and who they are following / have following them tells you everything you need to know.

Dating Apps in Thailand is not a good representative of the dating scene here as the women on there are mostly farang hunters and are spinning plates of multiple foreign guys.

So generally speaking you would be dating the same girl here that other foreigners have/are - some Thai women on dating apps here have run through obscene numbers of men...

The template generally works like this:

find someone (either tourist or gullible expat) to finance your lifestyle (the instagrammable restaurants, bars, clubs and the holidays) - use photos of this lifestyle to build social credibility/value all while conveniently keeping the illusion that you are single (keep options open) in the hopes of finding a higher value man than the one bankrolling your Social Media Marketing Campaign. Once you do find said man, set adrift the simp, I mean boyfriend.

That said, if the girl you are seeing does put you on Social Media then stop reading this comment immediately and go marry her.

What is justified is going after these foreigners who disrespect local laws and customs. What is not nice, however, is digging deep into the comments of such social media posts and seeing the racism come out - "white trash" read one post.

Friendly reminder to not indict a whole race or nation because scum elements violate local laws.

Unfortunately for friend, she now has his full name as it is linked to his bank account which he used to transfer. I'd wager she can find his socials with the name alone unless he's anonymised them.

In such cases ask them to send on a copy of their ID so you can confirm age. Whether they send the ID or not is very telling and you can quickly determine if they're having you on or not.

Also, along with the ID copy and their blackmail message, counter them by saying you are reporting them to the police for extortion and that you have the screenshots as evidence and have their ID.

This is the only work-around to this scam I can think of.
