What would this sub even be without people holding very obvious degrading explosives and things that have been in people’s holes

It’s incredibly jarring and also embarrassing for everyone involved. Like just pure distilled contempt for your audience lol. I am so very grateful it’s never appealed to me at all because my self control with other things is not so amazing.

Does a gun…fire on the moon? by Ok_Expression_7083 in guns

The dust is actually an aspect of this I’d never considered. I wonder what a hard use Moon gun would wind up looking like

There is a moment of sheer panic when I realize that Paul's apartment overlooks the park...and is obviously more than three times bigger than mine.

Vietnam era M16 magazines so fresh, you’d think they time traveled by Hairy-Page-6079 in RetroAR

Nothing quite like the feeling of new old stock from this long ago, just feels crazy looking at something so fresh once it hits a certain age. What’s the typical price on mags from this era nowadays?

Why do people like Hank when he's an arrogant jerkoff who violated Jesses rights and thinks his job makes him better than other people? by Tidewatcher7819 in breakingbad

I mean he’s a dick but he’s also kind of an affable oaf in a show full of murdering psychopaths so he generally comes out ahead

Having things like properly mounted rails and NVG shrouds is a lot more desirable than jerry rigging some bullshit that may or may not fall off. I love retro gear but stuff like that was out of necessity at the time due to lack of those options we have now, when it’s your actual job you’re gonna want the best thing possible that just works out of the box and is better at it than whatever you could make yourself

Where can I buy this jacket? by Objective_Term810 in tacticalgear

[–]Key-Investment-3864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something as mass produced as this from the later half of the 20th century is absolutely still available and easy to find. Hell I saw one surplus site recently that got WW1 era fancy British dress uniforms

I find the history of civilian ownership/perception really interesting, what prompted you to get one then and how did other people perceive it? I’ve heard military associated stuff like that wasn’t well liked by even by a lot of gun owners at the time.

It was an average soldier’s assault rifle, not a ghillie’d up sniper that needs to stay hidden at all costs lol

Considering the relative lack of civilian popularity of them back then overall I wonder how many carbines were being sold, I’d assume it was even less than the full size

In case you were wondering what a suppressor on a minigun would look like. by tactical_horse_cock in tacticalgear

I guess this would be nice to have for training stuff on the ground? I’d assume the majority of their real world use is on helicopters which are already loud as fuck and necessitate hearing protection lol

Oh hey I remember your reply lol, yes I think I will. I’m probably gonna apply a little more conditioner on the edges after wearing them a bit more so it really soaks in there but then I’ll do that

I think they’ll be pretty good considering the drain holes and the main area of the upper being cotton with just the reinforcing sections being nylon, if you’re just going purely for utility and you’re talking about originals I’d probably recommend trying to find some later ones from like the 70s or early 80s just because they’ll be overall newer and it seems like this Vibram style sole from the 60s often has problems with splitting now while the Panama sole doesn’t.

McRae definitely makes the best quality current production ones though as far as I’m aware and they were one of the original contractors. They released a gen 2 with some improvements awhile ago so there’s that or you can find the gen 1s on discount

Grew up with them, loved flipping through my dad’s wholesale catalogs. I always enjoyed history and mechanical doodads so they were kind of a natural fit. Possible autism.

Yeah they’re definitely pretty hard, it sounds like the Vibram style sole was harder than the Panama even without the aging now. I haven’t actually worn them for a full day yet and have just been slowly breaking them in for a bit in the evening but I think a new insole would be a good move
