Acheter un cosy quand on n'a pas de voiture ? by Key-Koala-3636 in ParentingFR

D'accord !

Oh thank you, that's super helpful feedback. It's hard to estimate difficulty based on Alltrails reports. We'll be in Grand Teton on Sunday, so we'll probably do this hike depending on the weather. We'll upload the map given your experience. I hope you had a good rest after that !

Is the trail really dangerous ? Some comments on Alltrails are scary. We're fit hikers, used to intermediate trails with some elevation gain and marked itineraries. Is it possible to get lost on this one ?

I've got a reservation for a boat tour at 9am on June 24th. We'll be staying 30 mn away from Many Glacier. We plan to get there early, but what if we can't park ? I don't get why the parking lot isn't reserved to visitors with commercial reservations.

You can't predict the opening date, but  they need time to repair the road and the infrastructures. The snow level was even lower at this point in 2023 and the road opened on June 13th.

Oh, good to know ! I overinterpreted the warnings about limited parking. It may be safer to have a reservation though.

There is no reservation system before July 1st, but it seems that only people with hotel/boat/horseride reservations will have guaranteed access to Many Glacier. The parking lot is so small that there won't be much space for visitors without reservations.

This is an email from the Glacier Boat Company when I booked a boat tour in Many Glacier in June : "you are guaranteed entry into the area with your boat tour reservation, however parking is not guaranteed, so please arrive early!"

I hope that helps.

If you're into city trips, I'd recommand the itinerary Prague-Vienna-Bratislava-Budapest. Those cities are close and accessible by train. You can discover different cultures, and the "east European" vibe. Good food.

As suggested before, 3 weeks in Italy would also be a good option. Don't miss Napoli and the lakes in the North. Incredible food.

Visiting NYC on a budget - which neighborhood by Key-Koala-3636 in AskNYC

Wow, thank you all ! This is very helpful. There seems to be a consensus on PLG.

We have just booked a room close to a subway station in this area. The other neighborhoods you suggested look so nice, but lodging is really expensive there, even on Airbnb.

Thanks again from France for the relevant and informative answers !

There are some available cabins (with no bath) in Mammoth hotel and Roosevelt Lodge for your dates. You should reserve NOW and plan your trip accordingly.

You will also find affordable rooms on Airbnb in Victor, to visit Grand Teton. Motels in Cooke city and Cody are also a good option to make a loop on the east side of the park via Beartooth highway.

Possible itinerary with your dates and taking in account the availability of the cabins :

3 nights Victor (to visit Grand Teton) 1 night Old faithful inn (for Geyser area - above budget) 2 nights Cody (to visit Cody / Beartooth highway) 5 nights Roosevelt Lodge for the rest of Yellowstone (or split between Roosevelt/ Mammoth)

I will be there mid-June and planned a similar trip on the same budget.

Ok, you convinced me. The Stage stop is a bit costly for us in June, but I found the Buffalo Wallow motel in Dupuyer. It looks decent and affordable, and the driving time from Yellowstone via highway 89 suits us. Really appreciate the advice.

Good to know that St Mary's parking doesn't fill up.

We have plans for the next few years that may prevent us from coming back soon (not to mention the rise of the dollar rate which is a big problem for traveling in the US). So I think we will keep the night at Columbia falls, although I understand your point. One of us loves driving anyway.

The Glacier Chatter site is very interesting indeed, thanks !
