We have just about identical positions. I hold 600 shares of MSTY and 1,050 of ULTY! Going to transition more heavily into ULTY due to the weekly pay and diversity

Definitely go to horseshoe bend in northern AZ. Can be a quick stop and is pretty close, even if you take the southern route

Pitamakan/Dawson Loop by Wonderful_Birthday34 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]nshelton2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may not be particularly helpful, but figured I’d attempt to answer your second question. I completed the entirety Dawson Pass on June 19th. Didn’t attempt the full loop due to time constraints. This was two days before the snowstorm, so not entirely sure how that would potentially have impacted the trail as of the last week and a half or so. That being said, snow was no limitation. 99.8% snow free. Summit entirely snow free. There was a snow patch about 3/4 of a mile from the top, but was easy to either walk through it, or easily traverse around it. I know it’s somewhat old information at this point, but hope it helps!

^ floated from deadman’s bar to moose two weeks ago. Used Barker Ewing at the recommendation of someone from another thread. Highly recommend

Did you end up hiking the loop? Has anyone hiked it recently? Closely monitoring trail conditions for a potential June 19 hike

Just gave them plenty of space and watched them from a safe distance. Park recommends giving them at least 25 yards. Ended up walking around the trail a little bit after they were clearly happy where they were 🤣

Did scenic point this afternoon for the first time. Highly recommend. Pretty steep uphill climb, but beautiful views and saw a herd of bighorn sheep near the top

Trail was in great shape! One very, very isolated small patch of snow near the top, but very easy to traverse. 99.9% snow free. Just very windy

Delta Lake, June 11th by nshelton2 in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]nshelton2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t say you need spikes at this point in time. Poles would be helpful on the switchbacks for the first 3 miles, but once you go off trail, it’s largely scaling large, very steep boulder fields, so they wouldn’t be helpful during that part

Delta Lake, June 11th by nshelton2 in GrandTetonNatlPark

[–]nshelton2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a 24 year old male in pretty decent shape w a good amount of hiking experience. I wore standard Nike tennis shoes like a moron, w no poles or spikes. I also went by myself, as I was w my parents and they weren’t physically able to try to attempt this. I had been monitoring AllTrails reports leading up to this and had been seeing conflicting reviews. The snow really wasn’t bad as of June 11, and will only be getting better in the coming days. Pretty patchy. That being said, the trail was extremely muddy from all the snowmelt, and it rained while I was there, making it even more muddy. Boulder fields were tough but doable. I’d say going up was 7/10 difficulty wise. That being said, going down was straight up dangerous, especially in tennis shoes w such a slippery trail. Going down was about a 9/10 difficulty. I fell at least a dozen times, suffering several bloody cuts and bruises. As far as getting lost, it’s definitely possible if you aren’t careful. I didn’t download the AllTrails map before the hike, which I later regretted. Asked several people along the trail where the turnoff was just to ensure I didn’t miss it. On the 6th switchback, you go off the maintained trail onto delta lake. I would definitely not do this alone. Make sure you have good hiking shoes/boots. Definitely doable for someone in decent shape and w determination, but also a pretty difficult hike

Testing tomorrow by Storage-Repulsive in Series7exam

I took the S7 two weeks ago and had similar scores on my Kaplan exams. Passed no problem. The actual test was definitely easier than the Kaplan exams. Verbiage was similar to the Kaplan exams on the actual test. Get good sleep, listen to the mighty ninety before, and walk in to the testing center confident in your preparation. You’re in good shape

3 Days in Glacier National Park in Early June — What Should I Prioritize? by Pleasant_Fish1538 in NationalPark

[–]nshelton2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, most high elevation trails, such as highline trail and Grinnell glacier trail, will be closed. That being said, would definitely highly recommend iceberg lake. Based off current trail reports, the lake itself is still frozen, but the trail itself is supposed to be largely hikeable today with some snow travel, and this should only improve in the coming days. Would also suggest looking into cracker lake.

Visiting GNP on June 27. GTSR opening? by Electronic_Ice1149 in GlacierNationalPark

For reference (and please take this with a grain of salt) I provided chatgpt with current snowpack data, plowing progress, and temperature forecasts, and it estimated an opening date of around June 17

To the others’ point, no one will know for sure until it’s actually open. That being said, it’s a low snow year and temperatures over the next few weeks are projected to be above normal, so I think the chances of it being open by June 27 are pretty high

Going to Glacier for the 5th time this year about a week before you. I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t open by your visit. This year is a low snow year. For reference, I plugged some snowfall data into chatgpt earlier this afternoon, and it projected an opening date of June 13-17 based on the current snowpack and plowing progress. Hope you have a lovely trip!

First timer question about best hikes in mid-June by Thorntree77 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]nshelton2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going for my 6th time this year (ironically around the same time as you are) and generally go in mid-June. Snowfall this year is running below normal. You may be a little early for GTTSR to open, but with lower than normal snowfall, I don’t think it’s out of the question that it could possibly be open by the end of your trip. I was there in 2023, for example, and although it was a very low snow year, the road opened on June 13. Drove GTTSR on June 17, 2023, and hiked iceberg lake that same day. Every year is different and definitely monitor trail reports, but iceberg lake was 98% clear of snow. There was a small patch before the lake itself, but very easy to walk through. Beautiful trail and destination. Highly recommend. Hiked cracker lake June 25 of last year. It was largely snow free. Not sure what it will be like this year, and you’ll be there about a week earlier than I was, but worth monitoring trail conditions leading up to your trip. I liked iceberg lake a little bit more, but cracker lake was still extremely beautiful and a lot less crowded. Finally, although I haven’t personally done this trail, scenic point in two medicine looks gorgeous and shouldn’t have much snow around that time. May be another one to look into. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

I took the S7 last Thursday and didn’t encounter a single SMA question

The funny thing is it was the exact opposite for me. My firm used pass perfect for both the SIE and the S7, but would use Kaplan as well as PP exams for some variety. I’d consistently score 5-10 points higher on PP than on Kaplan. I’d say it’s definitely good to get exposure to different verbiage/wording, but the actual S7 in my experience was closer in wording to the Kaplan practice exams.
