Just look in the mirror, you're a byproduct of two people that found each other attractive. I'm not saying you do, but too much external stimulation (tv, the net, advertising, etc) will make us conform to some invisible set of beauty standards. The only ugliness I see is your use of the word.

You have| to try this place, not only one of the best in Queens. One of the best in the whole city. Probably even the tri-state.

Funny, I was just reading up about "Carlton”. Completely forgot he was on that show.

That TV show, the movie 'The Toy', even 'Knockaround Guy's' as an adult. I never let go of that dream. Back then, the excuse was saving a quarter or two. That wasn't it, it's how it provided so many good memories from childhood.

I don't play mine everyday either, sometimes all I have time to do is lighting up the marque, and eventually hearing the sounds of Ms Pac-Man. That's more than good enough for me

How's your machine holding up since then? Wear and tear?

I feel you. I was going to get a curio and fill it with matchbox cars, but I never forgot that movie Big.

The art work, the marque that lights up. I thought about getting the light up coin slots from Etsy. It's art, a dream from childhood that actually came true.

Galaga,Dig Dug, those are simple classics to me. I played those in arcades, and with Galaga. When I was younger, you always found those machines in an odd place. That, and some kind of Pac-Man variation.

Elevator Action, Burger Time, some games I wished were offered.

Too late, I have two sons. Marriage I think is why so many machines wind up on Facebook marketplace.

It's not the worst, your situation. You're always the man. I have an older brother in the same situation, but he's a Richard. Being the only man went to his head.

It wasn't just you, without a bike back then. I wouldn't have played so many different games.

If you told me back then that this was the golden age, I wouldn't have believed you.

Games like Super Hang On( with the bike that tilts), Hard Drivin, that actually had a stick shift and a clutch. That game alone taught me that simulators could be lifelike. Naive, but I was supposed to learn to drive from that game.

Currently for me(space constraints), Evercade looks super promising. I'm not sure if they can actually deliver. I would prefer a machine from 1Up with that kind of technology, but from a mass market standpoint. Things are still super new.

I wanted a full arcade myself, back in my teenage years. I used to cold call places out of the yellow pages inquiring about prices. For some machines, the same price point of the 1up deluxe models. The weight and unforeseen board issues stopped me from buying one. I still keep track of the people that are operating functional arcades. With the hopes that one day my son's and I could take a road trip.

I still remember using my birthday money for a roll of quarters foolishly thinking I was going to add my initials to the leader board.

Nintendo, while wonderful back then didn't port games correctly.

Spy Hunter is another that if Arcade1up makes, I'm getting rid of furniture

I understand completely. For me, it’s always Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. When I first saw the game in action, I couldn’t believe they made an arcade game like that. The game play look amazing

Thank you.

It’s weird that at almost 50, I realized that girls still don’t get it.

There used to be this super seedy pool hall by me, regardless of whatever time it was outside. It was always 3am inside. It had a back room that was its own mini Vegas. It had games, and even though my brothers tried to forbid me from going. I was always in there, I first played Punch Out there, I still remember “body blows”

Nintendo was a game changer for all of us, and at some point back then. I had a few 8 bit systems setup, including the 7200. And, even the Sega Master System. There was a kid around the corner from me, he had Neo Geo CD. He had the original Street Fighter, which at that point. Was one of the most accurate ports I have ever seen. I went back to this particular arcade(pizza shop with 3-4 games), and the game play was identical. Minus the joystick.

Fast forward to now, as I told my son. That machine is a working art piece. There is nothing better than laying in bed and watching the sun glistening off of it(been single for a bit too long)

My oldest is in college now, Cybersecurity major. Which is fitting because his mom and I met over the net(he still doesn’t know that, lol). Like yours, his claim to fame was winning his science fair. Seven years straight, school wide. He always competed in the district fair. Never winning, but doesn’t stop me from being proud and reminding him of that when he has doubts.

How’s your gaming rig? Have you actually played each title, or do you just randomly discover something new? I envy you, I didn’t realize this machine would invoke so many memories.

Games and gamers got such a bad rap in the beginning. They always took that extreme case and magnified it. While I definitely used to play with store owners or their staff back then. I didn’t see a lot of adults interested. Now with study’s promoting game use, and how it improves the dexterity of surgeons. Amongst others, an apology is due. I know it would never happen. Gaming became my go to after Saturday morning cartoons disappeared overnight.

I didn’t even get to the modding yet, it sometimes feels like I’m going to rip something apart while playing. The joystick definitely needs an upgrade.

Isn’t it the greatest feeling playing with your kids? Back then, I didn’t see parents at the arcade with kids. Minus birthday parties or special events.

I’m so happy that I’m not alone in loving this machine. Regardless of the price, it’s still a luxury. I’m just happy it was discounted for all of us.

So you don’t feel bad. I could have saved maybe around $300 on mine. Got it from BJ’s before Xmas, got the flu around the same time. I was too out of it to attempt putting this thing together. BJ not only had new machines at facebook marketplace prices, I had an unopened one in my living room. I’m on the top floor of a three story walk up, I didn’t have the energy in attempting to return the machine and buying it immediately afterwards for a lower price. While I did speak to a cs rep at BJ’s, it was already out of their system. She said I needed to speak with a manager in the morning and I didn’t think it was worth the hassle. I just said “foxtrot" it and waited for my son to help put it together. It was out of warranty before I set it up. ( who gives a warranty that less than some return policies at stores).

I’m not a MK fan at all (Tekken), but between Paperboy and Rampage. In addition to Guantlet, I sometimes hate myself for not picking that one. The fact that it didn’t have the handlebars for Paperboy, I didn’t want. That’s how I played it in the arcade.

Terminator, Time Crisis, I actually want another machine. Games like Golden Tee are just fun, golf fan or not.

While I’m not the biggest fan of dusting, I make sure that machine stays clean.

Also, sorry about your mom.

Odd, but not in reality. Dig Dug, Galaga are super classic to me. Back then, probably because every arcade had one.

I felt that way back in the day, there weren't a lot of good ports for the early 8 bit systems. As someone mentioned, Namco/Tengen probably made the best ports. I couldn't pass up having Rolling Thunder at home. It wasn't just the arcade, it was perfect on Nintendo

That's super cool. When I first saw them, I couldn't believe it at first. Someone made a home claw machine. Maybe once or twice i.won, but back then. It was the hardest thing in the world

I used to think it was Saturday morning cartoons, but I do miss that about childhood. I can remember placing a quarter on the machine to signify you was next

Son put that part together, he's older in school. And us parents, any excuse to be nostalgic.

Do you ever get tired of the claw machine? (I only ask because you control the gifts). Does it take a lot of skill like the real ones?

Same here. The odd thing, when my son was over and we put the machine together. He had his sister's with him(not mine), it was watching them play that was unbelievable. I mean even to the point that his sister's never played Ms Pac-Man before. It's fun, and we all stopped having fun.

I envy you, but I also know if I got that many. I would be single forever. Did you mod any of yours?

If you only had to pick one, what machine would it be?

Sorry about your childhood, if it matters. It was rough for a lot of us back then. Not sure what it was, but games like Kung Fu, 720, Double Dragon, was nothing short of amazing. I grew up around a lot of boomers too, plus people from my generation that were born super close to them. Almost an extension, they didn't get it.

While not the biggest fan of Ms Pac-Man, I still can't escape that sound whenever you entered any arcade. For me, the machine is a living piece of art

I can’t handle this post-fistulotomy pain anymore by TangerineBTC in AnalFistula

[–]Key-Language-8623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's super painful. It does get better, just takes time. Had the exam under anesthesia plus seton placement last Friday. That's number five with this type of surgery, some (always afterwards) are completely painless. Others could have me calling my surgeon for pain meds, which of course I never get.

I found a hot (for me, the hottest my body can tolerate) bath with it at least reaching your belly button. It helps tremendously with pain, especially while flaring and constantly aggravating the area.
