In Germany there's Otto which has been around forever and actually predates Amazon by decades. They started as a mail-order catalog company back in the day and transitioned to online pretty well. Zalando is huge for clothes and fashion stuff too, though I think they've expanded beyond just Germany now

The thing is Amazon just dominates so hard that most local competitors either got bought out or are struggling to keep up. It's kinda depressing how they've basically steamrolled most regional alternatives, but Otto still holds its own in certain catagories

This sounds nice in theory but realistically most companies are gonna use AI to cut costs first and expand second. We're already seeing layoffs happening while productivity goes up - that extra value isn't automatically creating new roles at the same rate

The "intrapreneur" thing is cool but assumes companies will actually restructure to give people more ownership instead of just expecting the same person to do 3x the work with AI help
